In the Jamunamukh District, two villages consisting of over 500 families lost everything due to the Assam floods. the situation in Assam remains concerning, over 8 Lakh people in 2,585 villages of 29 districts have been hit by the downpour of the flood. “500 families affected by the Assam floods”.The families During this devastating time decided to set up a temporary shelter with tarpaulin sheets on railway tracks as they have nothing left. The tracks were the only high ground in the area which has not been affected by the floodwaters.
The residents living in Changjurai and Patia Pathan village are still seeking refuge from the fact that they have lost everything that they owned in the floods. they got temporary refuge under a shed constructed from tarpaulin sheets. The people opened up and said, they did not receive much help from the state government or the district administration in the last 5 days that they have been suffering.
The situation is so bad that 14 people have died until now due to the landslides that were triggered by the rain. People in Assam are living in inhumane conditions with next to no food, surviving on little Rice. Dal and Oil that the government gave them after suffering for 4 days. There is no source of safe drinking water and the people living there are eating one meal a day to survive.
The living condition right now is so bad that not only one but many families are living together under the same tarpaulin sheet on the railway tracks. People also exclaimed their crops were about to be harvested but were destroyed due to the floods. They believe that this situation will certainly bring challenges for them in the future as it is very difficult to continue living like this.
