BJP-backed independent candidate Kartikeya Sharma unexpectedly defeated Congress leader Ajay Maken in the Rajya Sabha elections for two seats in Haryana. It is believed that the big Congress like Ajay Maken lost the Rajya Sabha elections due to its own internal problems. There are three main reasons behind Maken’s rate.
It is learned that one person did not vote, one voter’s vote was not valid, with it was cross voting. Due to this, Ajay Maken has lost. He tweeted before the full results came out that he had won. He tweeted via social that he had won. Then awkward things happened. He lost. As a result, he was humiliated through social media.
However, BJP candidate Krishan Lal Panwar won comfortably with 36 first-choice votes, while Kartikeya returned home with 23 first-choice votes against Congress candidate Ajay Maken’s 29 first-choice votes.
Electoral officials said Panwar needed less than 30 votes to win and that his six-plus votes were transferred to Kartikeya Sharma (who was second choice out of 36) who dropped Maken. Maken did not get any second choice vote and Sharma was declared the winner.
With 31 congressional legislators voting on Friday, McCain’s second upper house seat should have won comfortably. However, it may not be. Congress MLA Kuldeep Vishnu is believed to have switched sides to vote for Kartikeya when the ballot of another Congress MLA was declared invalid for mis-identification.
On Saturday morning, Kuldeep Bishnoi retweeted journalist Sudhir Vishnoi’s tweet: “The right decision at the right time sets a man apart from the crowd.”
Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said he did not know whose vote was declared invalid. Hooda said a report on the matter would be sent to the party high command by party observers and action would be taken against Vishnu.
Congress in-charge for Haryana, Vivek Bansal, who was the party’s authorized agent, when asked whose vote was declared invalid, said he could not see it when party legislators showed him the ballots during the vote. “I can see that Kuldeep Vishnu has cross-voted but a legislator invalidated it with a tick on the ballot paper and it escaped my notice. I am quite shocked and trying to find out where things went wrong,” Bansal said.
Three candidates – BJP’s Krishan Lal Panwar, Congress nominee Ajay Maken and BJP-JJP-backed independent candidate Kartikeya Sharma – were vying for two upper house seats from Haryana. Kartikeya Sharma is the son of former Congress minister Benod Sharma and son-in-law of Congress leader Kuldeep Sharma.
A total of 89 out of 90 MLAs cast their votes on Friday. Meham’s independent MLA Balraj Kundu abstained from voting. The total number of votes has come down to 88 as one vote has been declared invalid.
A party leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “He is a CLP leader and now controls the state unit. Congress MLAs have been taken to Chhattisgarh and trained to vote.
