Adani Airports, one of India’s prominent airport operators, will undertake the construction and management of Mumbai’s new airport.

With a focus on meeting the growing demand for air traffic, Navi Mumbai is on track to receive a new international airport. Strategically located in the heart of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai, the airport project aims to cater to the increasing air travel needs.

Adani Airports, renowned as one of India’s leading airport operators, will undertake both the construction and management of this ambitious project.

The airport’s development will be carried out in four phases, with a strong emphasis on creating an energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable infrastructure, positioning it among the most eco-friendly airports worldwide. The project’s managing group has stated that all vehicles operating within the airport premises will be electric, and charging stations will be strategically installed throughout the facility.

Furthermore, the airport will heavily rely on green electricity, with a significant portion generated on-site through solar power. This commitment to utilizing renewable energy sources reflects the project’s dedication to environmental sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.

Inspiration from India’s National Flower

The terminal’s architectural design draws inspiration from India’s national flower, the lotus. The initial two phases of construction for the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) are scheduled to be completed by December 2024.

Spanning across a vast area of 1160 hectares, the airport project is progressing steadily. Recently, the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, along with his deputy, Devendra Fadnavis, visited the site to review the ongoing work and ensure its smooth progress.

Following an aerial inspection of the site, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, and his deputy, Devendra Fadnavis, received a comprehensive presentation from the representatives of the Adani Group. The presentation highlighted the various features and aspects of the upcoming airport, providing detailed insights into its design, infrastructure, and other notable aspects. This exchange of information allowed the leaders to gain a thorough understanding of the airport project and its future prospects.

CM expressed Significance of the New Airport

The Chief Minister expressed the significance of the new airport, emphasizing its importance not only for Maharashtra but also for the entire country. He highlighted that the airport would alleviate the burden on the existing Mumbai airport, which currently faces considerable congestion.

Less than 40 km away from Mumbai Airport

The upcoming Navi Mumbai airport will be located at a distance of less than 40 kilometers from the existing Mumbai airport.
The airport will be seamlessly connected to the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL), a 22-kilometer-long road link. The MTHL will serve as the primary road connector between the airport and the bustling metropolis, providing convenient and efficient transportation options for travelers.
