Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru, the prime accused in a sexual harassment case, whose police custody had ended on Monday, has now been remanded in judicial custody till 14 September.
The seer was produced before the Second Additional District and Sessions Court on Monday and judge B.K. Komala remanded him to judicial custody. Prior to producing him before court, a medical examination of the seer was conducted again.
He was then arrested by the police on September 1 and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. After questioning him, the police had a ‘potency test’ conducted on Saturday and conducted a mahazar (investigation) of the seer’s room at the mutt on Sunday. Producing him before court, the investigating officer also submitted the mahazar report.
Meanwhile, there have been speculations about the arrest of the third accused, which was ruled out by the district police. In a new development, all the inmates of the girls hostel on the mutt premises have been handed to the custody of Children Welfare Committees of respective districts, from which the girls hail.
“Among all 105 students of class V to SSLC were in the hostel, 54 students returned to their respective native places with their parents. Among the rest, 12 were lodged at Balamandir and 37 were moved to Morarji Residential School at Golayyanahatti. The two victims were sent to Balamandir”, Child Protection Officer P. Lokeshwarappa said.
He said that among the 49 students, 11 belonged to Chitradurga. As per orders from the department, the remaining 38 girls were turned over to child welfare committees of respective districts. The students will be admitted to residential schools in their districts, he stated.
Meanwhile, 6 couples entered into wedlock in the mass marriage conducted at the mutt in the presence of in-charge head of the mutt, Mahantha Rudreshwara Swami, on Monday. Since the last 32 years, mass marriages are being conducted, said the seer and that it was possible of it being included in the Guinness Book of World record in the future.
He also said that the routine programmes were going on as usual and appealed to devotees to visit the mutt without fear.
