Neiphiu Rio on his Resignation
Rio submitted his resignation from the Chief Minister post and shared the news through social media platform Twitter stating, “ As my tenure has come to an end, I am submitting my resignation to the honourable governor, Shri La Ganeshan.”
The NDPP-BJP alliance’s chief-ministerial candidate is Rio, who won the Northern Angami-II seat.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Rio and his colleagues will fly to New Delhi on Sunday to meet with central BJP leaders to devise a plan for the formation of the new government.
According to one person who requested anonymity, if the NDPP-BJP coalition wins 37 seats (NDPP-25, BJP-12), the partners are likely to receive six cabinet seats each without having to work with smaller allies.
Temjen Imna Along, legislator and president of the Nagaland BJP, stated the following about the formation of the new government: Our central leaders will make the decision because we are a party with a national high command.
Rio, 72, is the chief ministerial candidate for the alliance of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He will run from his home district of Kohima, Northern Angami-II, which he has dominated for the past seven assembly elections. Rio has almost 50 years of experience in politics. When he made his debut in electoral politics in 1987, he had only lost once from the constituency.
Rio is one of the intelligent politicians that the country has seen. He tries to stay up to date with time,” stated by the head of a village in the Chumoukedima district, Sebastian Zumvü. Further he added, “He successfully managed to change people’s mood and never failed to keep track of the changes of the moods of the people.”
At the age of 24, Rio led the youth section of the former regional United Democratic Front before entering politics. After joining the Congress under then-chief minister SC Jamir and remaining there for ten years, he won his first election in 1989. Rio joined the regional party at the turn of the millennium after leaving the Congress due to concerns about the long-standing Naga political issue.
Rio said he is confident that the NDPP-BJP partnership will return to form the government on its own, and that he is headed for a straight race against the newcomer Seyievilie Sachu of the Congress in the subsequent polls.
