According to police, The Nepal cricket team captain, Sandeep Lamichhane, has been accused by a 17-year-old girl of raping her in a hotel room in Kathmandu.
A teenage girl filed an FIR at the Gaushala Metropolitan Police Circle in Kathmandu on Tuesday, accusing Lamichhane, 22, of sexually assaulting her around three weeks earlier in a hotel room in Kathmandu.
The girl asserted that she was a fan of Lamichhane and they met each other on the social media platform Snapchat.
They got to know one another through Snapchat and began chatting on WhatsApp. In her accusation, the girl further stated that the cricketer himself had requested a meeting.
By the complaint made at the Police Circle Gaushala, Sandeep is accused of taking the girl on a visit to several locations in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur on August 21 before raping her the same night in a hotel in Kathmandu.
Ravindra Prasad Dhanuk, the head of the Kathmandu Police Office, has confirmed the complaint against Sandeep; an investigation has been opened following the deployment of a medical examiner to the young girl.
However, police claimed that they are collecting evidence about the incident, including CCTV footage. Nothing can be asserted, it was stated, without a thorough investigation.
One of Nepal’s top cricketers, Lamichhane, also participates internationally in Premier League matches. In addition, he has played in 40 T20 international matches and 30 ODIs for his country. Sandeep has taken 69 wickets for Nepal in ODIs, with an economy rate of 4.03. At the same time, he has also played excellently in the T20 format.
Lamichhane has 78 wickets in 40 T20 Internationals for Nepal with an economy rate of 6.26. In this format, he is well renowned for his economical bowling.
Currently, Lamichhane is playing in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). In 2018, when he made his debut for the Delhi Capitals team, he created headlines by becoming the first cricketer from Nepal to compete in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He was just named the team’s captain of Nepal’s national cricket team. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) was cited in a media source here as saying that Lamichhane, who has been accused of raping a kid, has, however, disputed the allegations and asserted his innocence.
He asserted his innocence over the phone when speaking with representatives of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). After the League, he declared he would return to Nepal.
