New York Fashion Week 2022 (NYC’s edition—the most attractive edition) brings posh editors, style influencers and photographers to the season’s most spectacular runway shows of the season where high-end designers and big brands will showcase their designs for Spring/Summer 2024.
NYC Fashion Week commenced yesterday and will go on till September 14, 2022. Although tickets aren’t actually available to the public, here’s something you might know: There are some designer shows and events that you may absolutely attend.
Where is New York Fashion Week 2022?
In 2022, New York Fashion Week will be held in person, like it was the previous season. Spring Studios, located at 50 Varick Street, will serve as the main headquarters, but designers intend to do runway events throughout the city.
Shows are streamed live and brought to you by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the agency behind New York Fashion Week, which will cast all runways through its Runway 360 digital hub. Throughout the week, you can also expect fashion houses to livestream their own shows on their social media platforms.
Details about the most exquisite events
Many designers are returning to the runway for the first time in almost two years this season, which will undoubtedly be remarkable. PUMA, AREA, and Tommy Hilfiger are just three of the many brands making a comeback on the runway after a hiatus.
Proenza Schouler will start off the season on Friday, accompanied by No Sesso and Collina Strada. The evening will conclude with a show from Fendi’s Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi, who are toasting to 25 years of the iconic Baguette bag. This bag, designed in 1997 by Silvia Venturini Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld, will never go out of style.
Locals from New York and tourists from Europe split the bill on Saturday and Sunday with shows by Altuzarra, Eckhaus Latta, Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, Sergio Hudson, Khaite, Tommy Hilfiger, and Marni at venues all around the city, including the Skyline Drive-In and The Shed.
Tommy Hilfiger is breaking even more ground by live-streaming its runway show in Roblox, making it one of the few fashion brands to venture into the ever-expanding metaverse.
On Monday, we’ll see a VIP-packed Coach show, Area’s return to the runways, and Maryam Nassir Zadeh’s groovy downtown action. New York Fashion Week will conclude with shows by Gabriela Hearst, Peter Do, Tory Burch, Michael Kors, and Willy Chavarria before Tom Ford returns to his regular slot on the calendar and ends the week on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
Gaurav-Ritu Taneja and Aashna Hegde are the first Indian content creators to stroll the runway at New York Fashion Week. A husband-and-wife duo from Delhi will walk the runway at New York Fashion Week alongside Mumbai-based lifestyle influencer Aashna Hedge, paving the way for increased representation of Indian influencers on global platforms.
Gaurav Taneja and Ritu Rathee Taneja of Flying Beast state, “We are extremely excited to be making our international inaugural fashion innings, at New York Fashion Week as the first content creator couple from India. It is an honor to be handpicked from the Indian content creator community to represent India on the world stage. It has so heart-warming to see such great reception and this association truly showcases the advent of the content creator community in recent times. We hope our participation in his runway will open up many more avenues for the influencer community of India.”
Archana Kochhar, the acclaimed Indian couturière, has brought in leading social media influencers of Indian descent as showstoppers for her fashion outings at New York Fashion Week, signaling a massive success for the domestic content creator industry.
Kochhar, who enlisted film actress Sunny Leone and acid attack survivor Reshma Qureshi for her first-ever New York Fashion Week appearance, will be the only Indian fashion designer to be handpicked to support the Make in India campaign launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, in 2014 at both of these prestigious fashion weeks this year.
Kochhar’s “Jharokha” collection for New York Fashion Week will highlight the significance of sustainability in the fashion industry. The showcase features a burst of colors and abstract designs and is a union of traditional hand-loomed fabrics and inimitable western silhouettes. The collection will mainly focus on handmade locally-grown fabrics with a low carbon footprint curated by women weavers from the interiors of the state of Madhya Pradesh.
Finally, we anticipate that brands will use New York Fashion Week 2024 to convey some powerful messages. Fashion is an art form that naturally makes a statement, and with huge political developments occurring throughout the world, we want designers to include activism in their work. Brands such as DVF, Dior, and Christian Siriano have made political statements in the past, and so we expect these brands and others to do so again.
