The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday investigated 13 locations across India in cases related to Islamic State terror groups

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out investigations at 13 locations across six states in cases related to Islamic State terror groups that aim to spread fear and insecurity in the country on Sunday.

NIA conducted investigation into 13 locations for suspects in 6 states, that are, Bhopal and Raisen in Madhya Pradesh; Bharuch, Surat, Navsari and Ahmedabad in Gujarat; Arariya in Bihar; Bhatkal and Tumkur City in Karnataka; Kolhapur and Nanded in Maharashtra; and Deoband in Uttar Pradesh in the case related to activities of the terror group Islamic State of Iraq and the Syria (ISIS). 

The cases were registered by NIA on 25th June this year under sections 153A & 153B of IPC and sections 18, 18B, 38, 39 & 40 of UA(P) Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, a statement given by the NIA said.

The agency also said that searches have led to acquiring of incriminating documents and material.

The NIA on Sunday also carried out investigations in Trivandrum area in Kerala for a case pertaining to the arrest of a Sathik Batcha also known as ICAMA Sathik, who was detained along with four other persons involved in Tamil Nadu in February, earlier this year.

According to the NIA, the accused had come up with a conspiracy to threaten the general public and police officials, also attempting to murder police personnel during the inspection of their vehicle, a Scorpio, when they were intercepted earlier this year.

“The accused were also involved in provoking hatred for secession of a part of India and had tried to disrupt the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India by developing groups such as ‘Khilafah Party of India’, the ‘Khilafah Front of India’ and the ‘Intellectual Students of India (ISI)’ while associating themselves with the terrorist organisations such as ISIS/Daesh and Al Qaeda, the NIA said in an official statement.

The case was earlier registered by Tamil Nadu police and later handed over to the NIA. “The search carried out today has led to the capturing of digital devices and other incriminating documents,” the NIA said.

The raids are still underway in six states, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

The agency has carried out searches at Bhopal and Raisen in Madhya Pradesh; Bharuch, Surat, Navsari and Ahmedabad in Gujarat, Arariya in Bihar, Bhatkal and Tumkur in Karnataka, Kolhapur and Nanded in Maharashtra and Deoband in Uttar Pradesh.

The case was registered by NIA on June 25, 2022, under relevant sections 153A, and 153B of IPC and sections 18, 18B, 38, 39 & 40 of UA (P) Act. The searches carried out led to the seizure of incriminating documents. Further investigations in the case are going on.

Moreover, the agency has been raiding multiple locations in Bihar including Nalanda since Thursday in connection to the Phulwari Sharif case having links with the extremist outfit called Popular Front of India (PFI).

The sources said that these raids were conducted nearly a week after the NIA registered a case and commenced a thorough probe into the case.

It is being said that all of the places where these raids are being carried out, all of these places belong to those associated with the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).
