Bhartiya Janta Party contested solo and won 32 out of 60 seats in Manipur.
Manipur newly elected assembly legislators will take their oaths as members of the legislative assembly today. The oath of office and secrecy will be administered by senior BJP MLA Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh. On Sunday, Rajen Singh was sworn in as the assembly’s pro tem speaker.
The oath-taking ceremony is anticipated to be attended by all newly elected MLAs such as Biswajit Singh, Y Khemchand Singh, Govindas Konthoujam, Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, Director General of Police P. Doungel, interim Chief Minister N Biren Singh, and other top officials.
The term of the present assembly will come to an end on March 19.
On Friday, Governor Satya Pal Malik received N Biren Singh’s letter of resignation as Chief Minister. Satyapal Malik, on the other hand, requested him to continue his duties until the new government takes over.
However, it is yet unclear when and who will be chosen as the next Chief Minister, as well as when the BJP-led government would return to power.
Prior to the elections, the BJP had informally announced that Biren Singh would be the party’s chief ministerial face and that he would also lead the next administration. The party went it alone and ran for all the seats. In Manipur, the BJP won 32 of the 60 seats.
N Biren Singh won the Heingang constituency by more than 18,000 votes.
