The missile that was launched on March 9th 2022 at 6:43 P.M. local time accidentally landed in Pakistan. It was clarified by the Defence Minister of India on the 11th Of March as a Technical Malfunction. The launch was a part of a routine check-up that also caused civilian property damage in Pakistan’s Mian Channu, Punjab province.
HOW DID INDIA AND PAKISTAN RESOLVE THE ISSUE?
The missile landed in Mian Channu, a part of Pakistan’s Punjab province on the 9th of March. It was justified as a ‘technical mishap’ by Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister of India.
The Charge D’ Affairs of India was summoned by Pakistan to Islamabad after the clarification on Friday, 11th March 2022. The meeting aimed to discuss the course of action regarding the required compensation and accountability of the ‘airspace accident’.
‘Pakistan would decide its next step after receiving India’s explanation.” Said Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Shah Mohommad Qureshi.
The missile originated from the Sirsa region of Haryana, near New Delhi, observed Pakistan airspace controller. It travelled at a speed covering 124 km in 3 minutes and 44 seconds. According to India, it was a part of routine maintenance which happened to turn into a technical malfunction.
Mr. Rajnath Singh also said that there was no loss of life and expressed his relief over the situation.Pakistan reacted to the occurrence by expressing its strongest condemnation. It explained that this technical malfunction was a violation of its airspace.
They called out the possibility of a loss of civilian life as commercial planes active in the region could have suffered dangerous impacts from the accident. Ayesha Siddique, an expert on military affairs and South Asian matters said that both the states have remained confident about the control of nuclear weapons.
“What if such accidents happen again and with more serious consequences?”, questioned Sidiqque.
Pakistan demanded an extensive and transparent investigation into the issue while India has initiated the same from their end.
