The ‘Save Soil Movement’ was started to raise awareness about declining soil health and to encourage people to take action to improve it.
On Sunday, the event will take place at Vigyan Bhawan.Â
He will also speak to the crowd during the worldwide movement’s programme. It was founded by Jagadish “Jaggi” Vasudev, better known as Sadhguru.
Sadhguru sets off on a 100-day motorcycle tour from London’s Parliament Square in March 2022. His trip reaches its 75th day on June 5.Â
According to the statement, Modi’s involvement in the initiative demonstrates shared concerns and
a commitment to improve India’s soil health.
What is the purpose of World Environment Day?
World Environment Day (WED) is an annual event held on June 5th by the United Nations to promote environmental awareness and action.
In other words, it serves as a venue for raising awareness about environmental concerns such as marine pollution, alien overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumerism, and wildlife crime since its inception in 1973.
Every year, over 143 nations participate in World Environment Day, as a result it serves as a
worldwide forum for public outreach.Â
Moreover, each year the programme provides a subject and a platform for corporations, non-profits, towns, governments, and celebrities fighting for environmental problems.
World Environment Day 2022 Motif
Only One Earth is the subject of World Environment Day 2022, with the concept “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature” as the central theme.
Considering the spate of climate agreements, UNEP claims that progress toward mitigating climate change is too slow.
India declared on Sunday that it has met its goal of mixing 10% ethanol into gasoline five months ahead of schedule.
Most importantly, PM Narendra Modi underlines actions taken by his administration to safeguard nature during the ‘Save Soil Movement’ event, which coincides with World Environment Day.
Adding that India is making significant efforts for environmental protection even though India’s
contributions to carbon emissions are low.
Events conducted by Centre
PM Modi states that the many programmes conducted by the Centre as part of India’s multi-faceted efforts are assisting in environmental protection.
“Many government programmes promotes environmental preservation. Swachh Bharat Mission, Namai Gange, or One Sun, One Grid are just a few examples. India’s initiatives are numerous.
“The developed world is the source of the most carbon emissions” according to the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister also emphasizes the significance of “Soil Health Cards” in transforming
farmers’ mindsets.
He states when farmers in the nation are unaware of soil health, a massive push starts to provide
them with soil health certificates.
“In this year’s Budget, we’ve announced natural farming along the Ganga river corridor will be promoted.
In March, we have begun the rejuvenation project of 13 rivers. It will also help in increasing the forest cover by over 7,400 sq km,” he added.
“The policies related to biodiversity and wildlife that India is following today have also led to a record increase in wildlife.
Today, India has achieved 10 percent ethanol blending in petrol five months ahead of its target,” he said.
However, individuals and civil society organization play a crucial role in increasing awareness and forcing governments and the business sector to make significant reforms.
Therefore, World Environment Day 2022 calls for “collective, transformative action on a global scale
to celebrate, protect, and restore our planet,” encouraging everyone, everywhere, to live
sustainably and address the climate catastrophe.
