OnePlus launched the successor to their Nord CE or Core Edition line released last year with the OnePlus Nord CE 2 yesterday.
The brand live-streamed the launch event on their official website and their official channel on YouTube at 7 pm on Thursday and unveiled its new mid-range phone’s design, specifications, and prices.
The company also released OnePlus’ Y1S range of smart TVs. The brand’s smartphones have been well received in the Indian market ever since the release of its original Nord set two years ago; the new edition adds to its long list of affordable high-powered phones
The OnePlus Nord CE 2 comes with many improvements from its predecessor, with the base 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant priced at ₹23,999 and the 8GB ram variant for ₹24,999.
It will also have 5G, joining its contemporaries in the notably fierce market. Both versions have dual SIM slots supporting nano SIMs and a dedicated microSD card slot that supports up to 1TB of expanded storage.
OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G and its many, many sensors
The smartphone has a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz maximum refresh rate, but it’s now HDR10+ certified. The build has a plastic frame, but the back panel and the display are now made of Corning Gorilla Glass 5, unlike its older version.
It is the slimmest (7.8mm) and lightest model so far, and they have retained the headphone jack on its design with one single speaker at
the bottom. However, there’s no sign of the signature OnePlus alert slider on any of the CE models yet, and it’s up to speculation whether the company will add it to future releases.
One of the most hyped-up features from the model was the triple camera setup, and it’s big, literally.
The camera bezel holds a 64-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with a 119-degree field of view, and both cameras have image stabilization software (EIS).
The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G also features a third 2-megapixel macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture lens and on the front is a 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture lens and EIS support.
The camera has AI features like scene enchantment toggle, which boosts colours during capture, and an added Bokeh Flare portrait filter that can also be used in video mode.
The phone will be powered by an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset, allowing users to complete heavy tasks without a hitch.
It will also come with OxygenOS 11.3 based on Android 11, and the company confirmed that users would get two years of Android updates and three years of security updates.
The OnePlus Nord CE 2 has a 4,500mAh battery capacity similar to the Nord CE, but thanks to the new 65W SuperVOOC charger, you can charge it a lot quicker. During the launch video, the company claimed that you could charge to full power within 15 minutes, with the most amount of time taken to be only 30 minutes.
Some of the sensors on the phone include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Overall, it looks like OnePlus has delivered on its original promise of providing flagship features at really affordable rates again. The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G is confirmed to come in Bahamas Blue and Grey Mirror colour options and is set to release for purchase on February 22nd in India.
