BORIS JOHNSON’s VISIT TO INDIA:
The United Kingdom’s opposition parties have questioned Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s choice to visit a British-owned bulldozer manufacturer in Gujarat on his recent visit to India.
A number of Labour Party MPs, notably Nadia Whittome of Indian ancestry, questioned Johnson’s visit to the JCB facility in Halol, notwithstanding the contentious destruction of buildings in Northwest Delhi in the aftermath of recent communal disturbances in Jahangirpuri.
The factory tour sparked outrage on social media, with mentions of JCB equipment being used in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s “anti-encroachment” effort, an issue that has been taken to the courts.
The opposition shrieked “Where is he?” during a question posed by Scottish National Party MP Lan Blackford in the House of Commons on Tuesday when a junior minister was left to address concerns over the “Prime Minister’s Visit to India.”
Vicky Ford, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s (FCDO) Under-Secretary of State, was delegated on behalf of the government and stated that the visit will “supercharge” while trying to emphasize the significance of human rights in the UK-India economic relationship.
Ford added, “We are not driven to profit at the expense of human rights. Both are critical components of a robust & comprehensive relationship.”
“Our relationship with India is important to the future development of both of our countries,”
she stated. “If we have reservations, we promptly tell them to the Indian government.”
The deputy high commissioners’ network will continue to properly investigate the allegations, while also realizing that this is an Indian concern.
