An Unprecedented Scenario Â
The Geneva based United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees gave a statement on Wednesday, elaborating about the refugee crisis at large due to Russian Invasion of Ukraine.Â
Approximately 5.1 million people have fled from the war torn country of Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion on February 24.Â
As the onslaught on the eastern Donbas region has prompted many more to leave the country. The five million Ukrainian refugees currently present in Europe has led to the largest refugee crisis in the history of Europe since the world war 2.Â
 Foreign HospitalityÂ
The amount of people who have fled from Ukraine is so significantly large in number that any country providing relief and temporary housing conditions, is bound to face economic disturbances.Â
A UN spokesperson In Geneva, Shabia Mantoo has said to the associated press agency that amount Ukraine’s base population of 12 million people, 5 millions have fled the country as refugees while more 7.1 million have been displaced since the start of the conflict.Â
A substantial number of people have fled from Ukraine, in the time span of just 2 months since the start of the war. Thereby making the job of accommodating such a large number of Refugees a daunting task for foreign governments.Â
The constant strain of accommodating such a large number of people will stress the economic and political settings of many European countries.Â
UNHCR’s earlier estimates of 4 million people was exceeded three weeks ago, as refugees kept pouring into neighboring countries. Â
Worst case predictions exceededÂ
Specialists had predicted the number of refugees in Europe due to the conflict to reach approximately 4 million at best.Â
Three weeks age UNHCR recorded crossing of the threshold. Thereby prompting the declaration of worst Refugee Crisis in the history of Europe after second world war.Â
Many countries like United Kingdom, Germany, Poland and France have joined the efforts to house the refugees. Humanitarian aid is being distributed regularly but as the war in Ukraine progresses the number of people fleeing from Ukraine may increase further.Â
ConclusionÂ
The country of Ukraine that had a population of 12 million before the start of the conflict has been desolated. A large number of people have fled Ukraine and are now displaced for an undetermined span of time.Â
The conflict Is gaining momentum every day, as more and more civilians flee the country to reach neighboring country borders, they are met with hospitality and all necessary essentials are being provided by humanitarian aid organizations and by the foreign Governments as well.Â
But with time the humongous number of people displaced may pose a serious threat to the functioning of the countries that have harbored the displaced population of Ukraine.Â
As more and more people have fled Ukraine on a daily basis, the global food supply and economic chains will be extended to their limits, as the fate of the refugees hangs in the balance of cooperation from foreign governments as well as what becomes of their homeland.Â
