House Republicans have introduced a Parents’ Rights bill aimed at increasing so-called parental rights in the classroom, continuing to emphasize an issue that has emerged as a central party platform. A possible divide-rule American culture-war tactic?
The toxicity of the rights of parents introduced into Congress earlier this month & debated on Capitol Hill this week, attacks an entire professional line & scorches many educators in the pretext of empowering parents. The nationwide “movement” began in the DMV during the pandemic, when Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin capitalized on parents’ frustrations with education, the country board education meetings had already begun turning into screamfests.
Parents’ Rights | Divide & Rule?
Encouraging a shortsighted notion of what children need to be inculcated within an ever-changing world in the form of an educative process, this is a possible strategy to divide Americans politically with culture-war scare propaganda. Furthermore, targeting aspects of American history about discrimination & anything LGBTQ-centric in nature is another possibility.
The bill was championed by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy & Chairwoman Rep. Elise Stefanik. The Parents’ Rights requires public schools to extensively disclose school-related nitty gritty such as curricula, reading lists, library books, and budget costs. They are also insisting school professionals seek parents’ consent before changing a child’s gender status.
Parents’ Rights | Not So Right For Teaching Professionals?
Springing into a chaotic outrage, parents in collective groups are fighting to take charge of what the children imbibe before stepping strides into the real world. By doing this, they are streamlining their own network of civically-engaged conservative voters. While there are options like private schooling or homeschooling that can be considered for the children of such parents, teachers are offering their resignations in large numbers, out of fear.
While the blame game can continue from time to time, this movement largely turns a deaf ear to equity in education along with a rapid drop in math and reading competency among all age groups. A little less distraction and a lot more parent-teacher communication could possibly bridge the educational gap for the children & give them better insight into the child’s creative learning skills and process.
Perspective: Parents’ Rights vs Parents’ Bills Of Responsibilities
Time and again, people’s demands for well-qualified, educated teachers have never ceased. From disciplining and teaching children the skills they need to imbibe to live in the real world, teachers have always been expected to top the notch & stay evolved with their educational practices.
Every time the parents have been involved in timely teacher meetings and parent conferences, their queries and concerns have always been catered to & taken care of by the teachers. However being blindsided by a blog, a youtube video that spreads hate on the current curriculum, or a Tweet on how pathetic teachers have been leads to constant quarrels between the parents & the teachers, doubting their capabilities of upskilling the children of today into better leaders of tomorrow.
Any teacher’s prime focus should be imbibing their students with the best educational practices and keeping parents informed about the curriculum. Parents, on the other hand, are their kid’s biggest role models – at home and in a click-of-a-button world one familiarizes with.
With children looking up to their parents for every tendency & holistic decision-making patterns of life, parents are responsible for teaching their kids holistic behavioral skills – championing a deep-rooted work ethic. Ultimately, maintaining a symbiotic parent-teacher relationship is key to ensuring the best possible growth for any child’s individuality, on a personal & professional level.
