The Pune police have caught the Indian premier league (IPL) betting racket in the city and have put four people behind the bars. An amount of rupees 27 lakh has been seized by the cops.
Cricket which is considered as the gentleman’s game in India where people are in love with these sports and player are worshipped as God there are some people who are doing illegal activities by destroying the gentleman’s game spirit by betting on the win and lose fixing the matches and players for just sake of money.
Police have arrested four people in the city. An amount of Rs 27 lakh cash has been seized, said Pimpri Chinchwad police As per the police, the betting racket was caught in Kale wadi on Saturday night and the FIR into the matter was registered on Sunday.
The accused were said to be betting on the match between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans which was being played at MCA stadium in Pune on Saturday. The police have registered an FIR against four people, including a repeat offender. As per the report by ANI, three out of four people have been arrested. Around, eight mobile phones and cash worth Rs 27 lakh were recovered.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Manchak Impar said, “Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted in Kale wadi area of Pimpri Chinchwad city in Pune district and the accused were arrested red-handed…the matter has been registered against them at the Wakad police station under IPC sections 353 and 34, Telegraph act and Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling act.”
Assistant Inspector Harish Mane from the cell said-
We did recce of the area around 7pm.after preliminary verification of the information, we raided the flat which was at residential society in kale wadi. We caught eight cell phone and a register in which the bets were noted down.
In the subsequent search of apartment, we caught 27 lakhs of cash. The primary probe suggests that the three suspects were taking bets from people and passing them on to a bookie through phone-based cricket betting application.
They had asked bettors to install this app on their phones. While these bets were being taken during the match on the end result and other aspects, they were to be settled the next morning. We have launched a search for the bookie whom we have identified.”
