The NEET UG exam will commence as scheduled to be held on July 17, 2022. Delhi High Court disbanded the petition seeking postpone of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test- Under Graduate. The petition was filed by student claiming that the exam will be creating “pressure and trauma” on the students.
Justice Sanjeev Narula said, “Petitioners are students, so the court will not be harsh. Had it been anybody else, the court would have imposed heavy costs,”.
“The entire cause that you have projected fades away if you see your plea. Pressure cannot be shifted like this. Ask your clients to study harder,” the court declared.
The counsel appearing for NTA proclaimed, that this year the schedule was compressed to bring it back on track for the year 2024.
“If the exam is postponed further, then it could spill over again to next year,” the counsel declared.
The educational ministry argued that NEET UG schedule has to be stabled. The exams cannot be postponed.
The petitioners have sought to set the date for the entrance and reschedule it after four or six weeks on several grounds.
Mamta Sharma argued that more than 18 lakh students are scheduled to take the NEET UG exam. She also pointed out the commitment of students by various students.
The court though said, the exam was scheduled and put to public in April. The court asked, “You knew the exam schedule in April. You’re coming to court on July 14. What do you expect? At the far end the court, on the plea of a few students, will postpone the exam?”
The court said that it’s a vast country something always keeps happening. The students cannot come up with a vague claim of postponing exam on such context, when the court was pointed out that the country has been experiencing floods and students from those areas are getting affected.
The counsels appearing for National Medical Commission and NAT informed that more than 3000 exam centers spread over 497 cities had been set up. Change in dates will affect the preparation.
