Changes So Far (Petrol And Diesel Prices) –

As of Monday, January 9, the price of petrol and diesel hasn’t changed in more than seven months. The finance minister announced the last nationwide fuel price cut on May 21 when the excise duty was reduced by Rs 8 per litre on petrol and Rs 6 per litre on diesel. The Value Added Tax (VAT) on gasoline and diesel in Maharashtra was decreased on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and by Rs 3 per litre for diesel in July.

Since the central government cut the excise tax, some states have also reduced the fuel VAT. Delhi charges Rs 96.72 for petrol and Rs 89.62 for diesel per litre, respectively. Diesel costs Rs 94.27 per litre and petrol costs Rs 106.31 in Mumbai. The last state to update fuel rates was Meghalaya, which increased its VAT on August 24. Shillong now pays Rs 96.83 for a litre of petrol and Rs 84.72 for a litre of diesel. Residents in India’s Silicon Valley Bengaluru will have to pay Rs 101.94 per litre for petrol while Rs 87.89 per litre for diesel.

The elevation varies depending on the fuel station. On the other hand, the tax on petrol was reduced by 0.55 paisa. Fuel’s VAT would increase from its current rate of Rs. 4.40 to Rs. 7.40 after the increase, increasing the price of a litre of diesel from Rs. 83 to Rs. 86.

Every day at 6 am, new prices for petrol and diesel go into action. Multiple factors, including Value Added Tax (VAT), freight costs, state and local taxes, etc., influence the price of petrol and diesel in each individual state. Public sector OMCs like Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) often adjust their prices in accordance with foreign exchange rates and international benchmark prices.
