According to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, technology can play a significant role in bringing prosperity to the most remote parts of India, and it can also help democratize basic amenities such as healthcare and education through telemedicine.
He stated that the ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) was created to protect small retailers.
Speaking about the government’s response to the pandemic, Goyal, who is also the consumer affairs, food, and public distribution minister, stated that the government decided to provide free food grains to 80 crore people in addition to entitlements under the national food security program
Goyal urged for the creation of 75 new unicorns by the end of 2022 while speaking at the inaugural event of the Indian Startup India Innovation Week. The minister stated that corporations expect to add 75 new unicorns in 2022, noting that half of the total 83 unicorns have attained $1 billion values in 2021 alone.
At a time when the world was dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, Goyal commended new-age entrepreneurs, noting that Indian enterprises had shown tremendous growth and turned misfortune into opportunity.
He also proposed a five-point action plan for IIT students to help India enter its golden age.
According to Goyal, India’s rendezvous with destiny must not only be a wishful meeting, but must also result in prosperity, progress, and development. “And I do not doubt that IIT-Kanpur and all the IITs will be at the forefront of that journey,” he said. Goyal presented a five-point action plan to IIT students to usher in India’s golden era. He described IITK as “India’s pride.” Kanpur’s satellite city, he claims, is rich in history and culture.
In all of their ventures, they should focus on scale, quality, and job creation; provide innovative solutions for farmers, artisans, and weavers; study digital platforms like ONDC and PM GatiShakti; help set the agenda/themes for India’s G20 presidency, which begins in December 2022; and make service and sacrifice a guiding philosophy.
