The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, was in Goa to inaugurate the Mopa International Airport. The foundation stone of the second international airport of Goa was laid by the Prime Minister, in the year 2016.
The Mopa International Airport
The Mopa International Airport is developed at a whooping cost of around 2,870 crores of Indian Rupees. The airport is built based on the theme of sustainable infrastructure, and it comprises a solar power plant, green buildings, facilities for recycling, LED lights on the runway of the airport, harvesting of rainwater, state-of-the-art sewage treatment plants, and other such functionalities.
Passengers capacity
Initially, phase one of the Airport will cater to around 4.4 million passengers per annum, which can further be expanded to a saturation capacity of 33 million passengers per annum.
Prime Minister at the inauguration ceremony at Goa
The Prime Minister congratulated all the citizens of Goa, and the entire country for the inauguration of the greenfield airport that is located in Mopa, while he was addressing the ceremony.
While he was recalling his visits to Goa, in the past eight years, Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, asserted that the love, affection, and acceptance that was shown by the people of Goa towards him was overwhelming, and with a showcase of interest in the form of development. “This advanced airport terminal is an attempt to return the favor,” he said in the ceremony. He also expressed his happiness over the fact that the Mopa International Airport of Goa is named after the late Manohar Parrikar.
The Prime Minister also talked about the steps and measures that are been taken in order to ensure the ease of travel and improve the tourism profile of the country, in the last 8 years. Also, about how the visa process has been eased and there have been improved visa-on-arrival facilities.
Tourism has one of the biggest potentials for generating more and more employment and self-employment for the people, and he also elaborated upon the measures to improve the overall tourism infrastructure in Goa, PM Modi added.
