On Friday, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for diverting Goa’s focus away from pressing issues such as the environment and employment.
Rahul Gandhi slammed Modi to say that if Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had desired, Goa might have been liberated “within hours” of India’s independence in 1947, saying the prime minister did not comprehend the situation the time or what happened after WWII.
He also told a press conference in Margao, about 35 kilometers from here, that he believes the Congress will win a majority of seats in the Goa assembly elections on February 14 and that no post-election alliances will be necessary.
“Modi has come to Goa to divert attention away from pressing issues such as employment and the environment. Is there anything he said regarding the environment or employment? “The BJP’s manifesto contains no mention of the environment,” Gandhi remarked.
The prime minister should inform Goans about their efforts to create jobs in the state, the tourism industry, and the environment. On Thursday, Modi criticized the Congress during an election rally in Mapusa, near here, saying the Congress took 15 years to free Goa from Portuguese dominion.
“Freedom fighters have reacted on this topic,” Gandhi stated, referring to his words academics have discussed it. The sad reality is that the Prime Minister is ignorant of the history of those times. He doesn’t grasp what happened after World War II.
He’s coming to Goa to divert attention away from more pressing issues such as the environment and employment.” Gandhi further said that the BJP seized power in Goa and has dominated the state for the past five years by stealing the people’s mandate.
Rahul Gandhi, who is in the state for a day, stated that if his party wins power, it will begin sustainable mining. “We’ve done our homework on the subject. “Restarting mining legally is not a problem,” he stated.
“Legal and sustainable mining will be allowed, resulting in a great number of jobs.” Your spirit, as well as tourism, is a valuable asset. “I’ve talked to a lot of people in the tourist business, and we’ve come up with a plan to entirely rejuvenate the industry,” he added.
After the Supreme Court overturned 88 mining leases in March 2018, Goa’s iron ore mining industry, which used to be one of the state’s critical sources of revenue, came to a halt. He stated that Congress intends to invest money and energy in transforming Goa into an IT and information center, allowing many young Goans to work in the IT business.
If his party wins power in Goa, the Congress leader promised three linear projects a national highway extension project, a Tamnar power transmission project, and the South West Railways’ double-tracking through the wildlife hotspot of Mollem would be abandoned.
