Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that government is spending over Rs 6.5 lakh crore on agriculture and farmers.
He stated that the centre is delivering rather than just promises. He said this while addressing the 17th Indian Cooperative Congress at International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC), in Delhi.

PM Modi on agriculture
At the inauguration ceremony of the 17th Indian Cooperative Congress at the International exhibition-cum-convention centre (IECC) in Delhi, on the occasion of International day of cooperatives PM Modi said that cooperatives are provided with that of the facilities of corporate sector. Speaking at te event PM Modi also highlighted the success of his government in last nine years in the field of agriculture and related sectors. “On an average, the government is spending more than Rs 6.5 lakh crore yearly on agriculture and farmers,” Modi said. “The government is making sure that every farmer in the country receives around Rs 50,000 every year in some way or the other. This means, under the BJP government at the Centre, there is a guarantee that every farmer gets Rs 50,000 in various forms,” he asserted. He also said “Ye Modi ki guarantee hai. Aur maine jo kiya hai, woh bata raha hoon, vaade nahi bata raha hoon,”
PM Modi on oppositions
Later while addressing a rally in tribal-dominated Shahdol in Mahakaushal region of MP, PM Modi highlighted his government’s track record in implementing policy and compared it with the alleged failure of opposition parties specifically Congress. He also asked people to be cautious of fake promises by “family-centric” political parties. “Beware of those (parties) who are giving fake guarantees. despite not having their own (political) guarantee,” Modi said.
“When they give you the guarantee of free electricity, know that they will increase the power tariff. When they give the guarantee for free travel, then understand that the entire transportation system will be destroyed,” the PM said.
PM Modi on Food security
PM Modi said in the discussion around food security, that the country’s self dependency should not be limited to just wheat, rice, and sugarcane. “We always say that India is self-sufficient in food-grains But what is the truth? Only self-sufficiency in wheat, rice and sugarcane is not enough,” he said. He also highlighted how India spends Rs 2-2.5 Lakh crores on the import of edible oil, pulses, fish feed, and processed food. Modi said, “Sarkar and Sahkaar (government and cooperative) will together provide double strength to the dream of the ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India). It is imperative that the cooperative sector becomes a model of transparency and corruption-free governance.”
PM Modi specially mentioned the dairy sector for good export performance and highlighted the the need to harness the full potential of villages.
