PM Modi is in Tokyo to attend quad summit, he met three former Japanese PMs Yoshihide Suga, Yoshiro Mori, and Shinzo Abe. In meeting, PM Modi hailed JIA’s important accomplishments under Mori’s leadership, which have aided in the promotion of political, economic, and cultural relations between India and Japan.

TOKYO: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met former Japanese Prime Ministers Yoshihide Suga, Yoshiro Mori, and Shinzo Abe, for the QUAD Summit and bilateral discussions with the leaders of Japan, the United States, and Australia. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen India and Japan’s special strategic and global alliance.
The broad canvas of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, as well as the two partners; shared vision for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific, were discussed. Ways to strengthen cultural and interpersonal relationships were also discussed.

The QUAD leaders reaffirmed their commitment to an Indo-Pacific that is free, open, and inclusive. They also emphasised the need of respecting the ideals of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful dispute resolution.

MODI invited Suga for Ganeshotsav and also wished Abe for his new responsibilities:
- Modi also invite Suga to attend Ganeshotsav; Suga was PM of Japan from September 2020 to September 2021, is a member of the ‘Ganesha’ group, a group of 15 Liberal Democratic Party members named after the Hindu god Ganesha, who is revered as a remover of obstacles.
- PM Modi wished his good friend Abe on his new responsibilities and said he looks forward to the continuation of the important role being played by JIA.
