Police have started a massive manhunt to search for the suspect identified as ‘Frank James’ responsible for shooting people at a subway in 36th Street Station at Sunset Park.
In a shocking incident, 13 people were injured, and ten people were shot dead in New York’s Brooklyn subway station on Tuesday. As a rush-hour train approached the station during the wee hours, the gunman donned a gas mask, opened a gas canister, fired 33 shots, and fled the spot. A 24-hour harrowing manhunt by the New York Police department has identified the gunman as Frank James, a 62-year-old responsible for the shooting.
According to a report by Reuters, James is believed to live in Wisconsin and Philadelphia. New York Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell told in a conference that the gunman came in an orange reflective vest and hard cap and had put on the mask just as the train arrived. Photos and videos about the incident have emerged on social media platforms. Keechant Swell, in his statement, said, “We are truly fortunate this was not significantly worse than it is.”
James is still at large, and police have notified the public to get in touch with information or the suspect’s whereabouts. The police requested citizens to share videos and images to identify any details about the suspect and offered a $50,000 reward for any information. With the New York Police Department searching for the suspect, Mayor Eric Adams vowed to bring justice. The police found a U-Haul van, among other belongings of the gunman, parked near the subway station.
Previously, James posted a series of disturbing, biased, and prejudiced videos online, including mocking the mayor’s efforts to reduce subway crime. According to police statistics., through the interim period of Mayor Adams, subway cases have risen from 260 to 296. The incident came a day after President Joe Biden announced new gun control measures and increased restrictions on ‘Ghost Guns’ assembled at home.
The victims injured in the shooting included a pregnant woman and children as young as 12, as stated by NYPD. The gunman shot three women between ages 41 and 49 and seven males between ages 15 and 41 on the N train at the 36th Street Station at Sunset Park. Many were injured, including a woman who suffered a knee injury and smoke inhalation and is being treated at the Kings County Hospital.
