Ukraine’s Ambassador to India, Igor Polikha, said Kyiv is “very displeased” with India’s stand on Russian aggression just hours after his nation was attacked. “I don’t know how many international leaders (Russian President Vladimir) Putin would listen to, but the stature of (Prime Minister Narendra) Modiji makes me hopeful,” he stated while “pleading” for India’s cooperation.
“I am following all the reports from your ministry,” Polikha said as events in Ukraine rapidly unfolded. “The latest advisory to your citizens in Ukraine was just not to go out, not to go to Kyiv, and the statement of your Minister of External Affairs was that India is closely following the development of events.” Their stances are profoundly unsatisfactory to us. What does this imply? Is it better to follow closely or even more closely? Currently, 10-15 individuals are being slaughtered. What will happen if hundreds of thousands of people are killed? We’re waiting; we’re imploring. We’re pleading for India’s powerful voice.”
Polikha Igor talks concerning Indian students in Ukraine
In response to the vast number of Indian students studying in Ukrainian medical schools, Polikha stated that Indian intervention is essential to ensure their safe
“Ukraine has one of the largest populations of Indian students in the world. Over 20,000 people. The well-being and safety of your citizens is likewise our responsibility, but it is first and foremost your government’s responsibility. We sought to assist as soon as the Indian side requested it. Unfortunately, Ukraine’s airspace is now blocked. I met with a number of Indians in Ukraine, and the vast majority of them do not want to be evacuated. They’re hoping for a peaceful outcome. And in this situation, not only for the sake of Ukraine, but also for the benefit of your population, all of us, including world leader Modi ji, should put every pressure and effort to halt this assault,” he urged
He feels that India’s connection with Russia and Prime Minister Modi’s attitude indicate that India can make a significant intervention in this situation
Polikha said he has hopes from prime minister ModiÂ
“Don’t forget that India was and continues to be a leader of the Non-Aligned Movement, which was founded during the Cold War to reduce global tensions. It was founded on peaceful values. Don’t forget that India was one of the builders of the Panchsheel, the five renowned principles. That is why, at this time, we are requesting and appealing India’s assistance. In the event of assault by a totalitarian dictatorship against a democratic state, India should fully embrace its global role,” he remarked
“Modi Ji is one of the world’s most powerful and recognized leaders.” You are aware that you have a unique strategic partnership with Russia. I’m not sure how many international leaders Putin will listen to, but given Modi ji’s statue, I’m hoping that Putin will at least consider it in the event of his loud voice. In this crisis, we anticipate the Indian government to take a far more favorable stance. “It’s a watershed moment, Â a watershed moment,” Polikha remarked.
