In the house chamber of Louisiana state capitol, a baptist pastor along with a former businessman who is now a representative are on a mission from earlier this year. They strongly believe that a woman who decides to go through an abortion receives the same punishment when a woman drowns or kills her own child.
Abortion consequences
According to the bill promoted by them, a woman can face murder charges over aborting her baby even if she was raped or if the doctor’s advice was to save her own life rather than the baby’s. The bill also asks for the banning of contraceptives like Plan B. Doctors who help their patients for procedures like in-vitro fertilization which is now used by millions of Americans, will also face charges.
During the committee meeting, four people spoke against the bill and all of them were ironically women. They have asked the lawmakers to look into the harsh requirements of this bill and they also warned of the consequences. They also stated that this bill is going way farther than any state’s law abortion rules.
A former representative, Melissa Fourney said “We need to take a long breath”. She runs a progressive advocacy group with 10000 women.
In the end, only one man and one woman voted against the bill which makes it one step closer to becoming a law.
State representative, Danny McCormick said to the comitte wight after Roe vs Wde was overturned and the news got leak
“The taking of a life is murder, and it is illegal”
Brian Gunter, who is also a pastor said “No more compromises, No more waiting.”
