Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has secured a contract with Northamptonshire to participate in the remaining matches of the County Championship in England. In addition, he will represent the team in the upcoming Royal London One-Day Cup, scheduled to commence in August. After the conclusion of the Duleep Trophy, the 23-year-old is set to travel to England for his stint with Northamptonshire.
Prithvi Shaw is currently a member of the West Zone squad, which has the potential to reach the final of the Duleep Trophy, slated to take place from July 12 to 16. Despite being excluded from the Indian national team, Shaw remains an essential player for Mumbai. Although he hasn’t participated in any first-class cricket matches for six months, he notably performed exceptionally well in January this year, scoring 379 runs off 383 balls against Assam in the Ranji Trophy.
According to a source, Prithvi Shaw will depart after completing his duties in the Duleep Trophy for the West Zone team. If everything goes as planned, he is expected to participate in the match against Somerset scheduled for July 19-22.
In the event that Prithvi Shaw decides to leave for the UK after the Duleep Trophy final, he will not be available for the Deodhar Trophy inter-zonal one-day tournament commencing on July 24. Since making a century on his debut, Shaw has encountered difficulties facing high-quality international bowling. He last played a red-ball cricket match in 2020 and later returned to play for a second-string side against Sri Lanka in 2021.
During the IPL 2024 season, Shaw represented the Delhi Capitals but struggled to perform consistently at the top of the batting order. In a stretch of six consecutive games, he failed to surpass 15 runs. As a result of his inconsistent form, he was eventually dropped from the team but later earned a recall and managed to score a half-century.

Northamptonshire currently competes in Division One of the English County Championship and has struggled with just one victory in seven matches thus far. They aim to improve their performance with seven more games remaining in the season.
Prithvi Shaw will be experiencing domestic cricket in the UK for the first time as he joins Northamptonshire. He will be the fifth Indian player to participate in the 2022-23 season, joining the ranks of Cheteshwar Pujara (Sussex), Ajinkya Rahane (Leicestershire), Arshdeep Singh (Kent), and Navdeep Saini (Worcestershire).
At 23, Shaw has played six ODIs, amassing 189 runs at an average of 31.50. Shaw has also featured in one T20I match for the national team. In domestic cricket, the talented batsman from Mumbai has accumulated 3679 runs in 42 First-Class matches, maintaining an impressive average of 51.09. He has recorded 12 centuries and 15 fifties throughout his First-Class career.
Shaw possesses great appeal in white-ball cricket, where his ability to strike the ball cleanly makes him a valuable asset. He has accumulated nearly 3000 List A runs at an impressive average of 52.54 and a strike of 123.27. With eight centuries, including a double century, to his name, Shaw’s potential has even prompted former India opener Gautam Gambhir to predict that he could captain the national team in the future.
