Priyanka Chopra addressed United Nations General Assembly about a race against time to fulfil SDGs.
The UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Priyanka Chopra, addressed a meeting at United Nations General Assembly on 19th September, Monday. She spoke about the current state of the world and how consequential our present actions can be.
She said that “ the world is at a juncture” and global peace and solidarity will be crucial to mitigate the future disasters.
She called out the leaders representing different nations and urged them to take necessary steps to safeguard the rights and restore peace. Moreover, she addressed the upcoming global challenges like Climate Change, epidemics, economic crashes, black swan events, resource scarcity, migration etc.
It was interesting to see her interact with her other famous counterparts like Malala Yousafzai and Amanda Gorman at UN General Assembly.
Malala is a women’s rights activist while Amanda is a celebrated poet and activist. She recited her first poem in front of the whole nation during Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony.
Priyanka Chopra’s Agenda in the Meeting
The Indian Origin actress, who starred in several blockbuster Hollywood movies like Baywatch, seemed emotional while speaking on the stage. She spoke about the conflicts raging in the communities due to lack of water, food, displacement, poverty etc. Moreover, she touched upon the sensitive topics like the rise in job losses due to Covid-19.

She stated that the everlasting effects of Covid-19 have crippled whatever progress was made on the United Nations SDGs goals in the last decade. The rise in crimes against the vulnerable groups, especially women and the children is a testimony of this dark situation.
She urged the leaders to tirelessly work for “the very foundation of the world that we fought for”.
Her Address about Climate Change
Aside from expressing her concerns about the present deterioration of the state of women and children, the UNICEF Ambassador also spoke about climate change. She claimed that “all is not well” with the world. We are already halfway through 2030 and yet many SDGs are no closer to being realized.
Moreover, it feels like the warnings of ‘peril’ by United Nations and IPCC reports is falling on deaf ears. The leaders are fighting over shared responsibility over punitive damages rather than ensuring survival of the worst affected groups. She talked about the commencement of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015.
Priyanka Chopra’s Instagram Post said this:
“ Walking through the gates of the United Nations this morning to speak at UNGA for the second time, as a proud representative of @unicef, gave me real pause.
At the top of this year’s agenda are the Sustainable Development Goals. Today was all about action, ambition, and hope. It was about what we must do together to make the SDG’s a reality, and we don’t have a moment to lose. A special thank you to Secretary-General @antonioguterres for having me today.
The second moment I had the privilege of participating was the Transforming Education Summit. It’s hard to believe that nearly 2/3 of children across the low- middle- and high-income countries cannot read and comprehend a simple story.
The system has failed them. As the US Secretary of Education put it so candidly, education is the great equalizer, but if we continue to do what we have done, we are going to get what we have gotten. We owe every child this basic birthright, an equal chance to learn and reach their full potential.
And as the incredible Amanda Gorman said, “I dare you to shape our fate. Above all, I dare you to do good, so that the world might be great.”
Priyanka Chopra’s Future Projects
Since Priyanka Chopra is UNICEF Ambassador, she spends a lot of time travelling around in developing countries. She has been seen frequently interacting with deprived people. It’s truly a marvel that she manages it with her work life.
Moreover, she and her husband, Nick Jonas, recently flew off to a secret exotic location to celebrate their marriage anniversary. According to the official reports, she will be seen soon in the Amazon Prime Web series called Citadel. It is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.
This ambitious show is being touted as the flagship show under which several spinoffs will be created.
Its Indian version is being pursued by the infamous filmmaker duo Raj and DK.
