Indian archer Priyansh Sharma clinched the coveted under-21 world champion title in compound archery, contributing to India’s impressive medal tally of nine, which included five gold medals. In a dominant display, Priyansh defeated Aljaz Brenk from Slovenia with a commanding score of 147-141 in the men’s under-21 individual final at the ongoing World Archery Youth Championships.
Priyansh has gained recognition for his outstanding achievements and remarkable performances in various competitions. He has demonstrated his prowess as an archer on both national and international platforms. His success extends beyond the World Archery Youth Championships. Priyansh has consistently showcased his talent and dedication in various other competitions, earning accolades for his remarkable performances. The journey to victory began with a fiercely contested opening round where Brenk, the former under-18 world champion, matched Priyansh’s score of 29. However, Priyansh maintained his composure and responded with a flawless round, scoring a perfect 30. This put pressure on Brenk, who struggled to maintain his earlier momentum.
Priyansh capitalized on his advantage, steadily extending his lead throughout the match. By the end of the fourth round, he was comfortably ahead at 118-112. The fifth and final round saw both archers shooting a score of 29 each. However, it was enough for Priyansh to secure the under-21 world title in the compound section.
India’s Archery Prodigies Shine at Youth World Championships
Earlier in the championships, Aditi Swami also achieved success for India by defeating Leann Drake from the USA with a score of 142-136, earning her the women’s under-18 title. The Indian contingent’s impressive performance showcased their skill and determination on the global stage.
Following her outstanding performance and record-breaking achievement in the Under-18 compound women qualifying round at the recent World Cup, Aditi Swami continued to showcase her exceptional skills at the ongoing Youth World Championships. She demonstrated her superiority by securing a resounding victory over Leann, displaying her dominance throughout the entire contest. Aditi took control from the very first end and maintained her lead, ultimately securing India’s fourth gold medal in the tournament.
Aditi’s remarkable success builds upon her debut in the senior category at the World Cup held in Medellin, Colombia, where she contributed to the team’s bronze medal. Additionally, her talent and proficiency were evident when she earned an individual silver medal at Asia Cup Leg 3 in Sharjah last year.
India’s aspirations for another medal were shattered as Avneet Kaur encountered a formidable opponent in Hallie Boulton of Great Britain. The closely contested match concluded with a tie as both archers achieved a score of 138 points. In the ensuing shoot-off, Hallie emerged victorious by a narrow margin, securing a score of 10-9 and putting an end to India’s pursuit of a third medal on that particular day.
Nevertheless, India’s overall performance in the tournament deserves accolades, exemplifying their proficiency in the sport. Thus far, the Indian contingent has amassed an impressive total of nine medals, comprising one silver and three bronze, further cementing their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in archery.
