‘Big’ Congress leaders discussed the party’s strategy on Sunday as the budget session of the parliament is nearing. The meeting was held at party president, Sonia Gandhi’s house. Party leaders have decided to coordinate with other ‘similar mentality’ parties to raise concerns over the issues of public importance.
Though the meeting included many party leaders, and even when the cause of the meeting is to bring ‘come backs’ to the congress, Rahul Gandhi was not present. Due to ill health, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also was not present in the meeting.
This meeting held the biggest position in saving the party from losing its path. The recent assembly elections had been quite tough for congress. The party lost Punjab to Aam Aadmi Party and also struggled with lesser seats in the rest of four states- Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur against BJP.
Amid the dropping of seat counts, many political thinkers and analysts raised discussions over congress drowning. All these shame and disappointments may lead the party to raise issues about society.
“We discussed issues to be raised during the session starting Monday. We will work in coordination with other like-minded parties to raise issues of public importance during the session,” Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters after the meeting.
“Among various issues to be raised during the session include evacuation and safety of Indian students in Ukraine, inflation, unemployment, labour matters, MSP for farmers as promised by the government. We discussed all these issues at the meeting,” he also said.
The list of prominent leaders who attended the meeting includes Anand Sharma, Jairam Ramesh, K Suresh, Manickam Tagore and Manish Tewari.
Along with Rahul Gandhi and Ex-Prime minister Manmohan Singh, some of the Senior Congress leader A K Antony and the party leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury were also not present at the meeting.
The meeting of the party is held every year before the budget session just to make sure they bring light on many socio, economic, internal and external issues, this year including the Ukraine war crisis.
The second part of the Budget session starts on 14 March 2022, and will continue till 8 April 2022.
