Protein is something we all are aware about. In our day-to-day life we see so many debates regarding the consumption of quality and quantity of such. We all get influenced by what we hear. And about protein there are so many myths which prevail in the market.
Consumers are being duped by influencers, brands and the GYM owners. In this article we will discuss about what is protein, how much we need it and of how much requirement.
We did magnify the myth and concluded a proper solution. Also highlighted the fact that protein is not all-rounder. We need other nutrition stuff as well to stay healthy.
Protein is very important component of an individual’s diet. Almost everything in our body is made up from protein. Like the parts which can be perceived by our five senses, for illustration the nails, hair, skin, and muscle.
Also, the ones which cannot be perceived by our sense, the invisible cell structures, antibodies and hormones etc. these are there and buildup of protein but we cannot observe or fell them from our naked eyes (visual receptors) and from touch (tactile receptor).
This protein breaks down into amino acids and then later is used by our body. I won’t swim deep in this concept. But we need nine essential types of amino acids.
These are also known as EAA (essential amino acids). These are vital because they do restore and reconstruct our muscles. These are present in rich quantity in beans, nuts and soya.
Why is protein so important?
Let us understand with this example. For a pucca house we need bricks and cement. Whereas for katcha house we need mud and straw, very raw. In the same way we need protein in the form of amino acids so that we could form our body structure properly.
In simple sorted terms proteins are building blocks for our body. Later it is very handy for us restoration and reconstruction of damaged or replaced muscle.
After workout our muscles go through wear and tear for further development. So, at that time we need protein for the restoration and healing of the muscle structure. How much do we need? Well, it depends on the intensity of the workout. The vigorous the workout the hefty degree of wearing and tearing happens.
Similarly, the cramps are formed. When we exercise more than we usually do. Because of anaerobic respiration.
Protein is very much in hype and common. Many people are afraid to have the so called “protein deficiency”. It is believed protein is one for all. Therefore, there is so much artificial protein available in the market. This business mints money.
Those people who go to gym are pressurized by their gym trainers and those who are glued to “Bollywood” and “Hollywood” fantasy, see their favorite celebrity endorsing them.
Myth-over
We need protein in a limit. Rather I would say that we must balance our all the food components. Excess of anything could be fatal. So does this go with protein.
And only protein doesn’t help in healing, restoration or reconstruction of our muscles, wounds and other parts and organs. We need carbohydrates, fat, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamin-D etc.
We need protein for muscle and bones, but stronger bone is not the one with layers of protein, but with good composition of calcium as well. Fat and carbohydrates are seen as sin food by gym geeks, but they have their own importance.
Life is all about balance. How do we balance our work-life, our diet, spiritual life. It is all connected and interdependent. There is no hard and fast rule for this. Also, there is no one way that would be for all.
Similarly, when taking diet. We need to arrange as per our needs and requirements. How would we know? By seeing what is our goal health wise. Do we have any deficiency? Excess of protein can cause weird composition of body.
