The Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) on Saturday set up WiFi zones at three key locations, including the base camp of Bhagwati Nagar here, in an effort to make it easier for Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to stay connected with their families back home.
The Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) activated public WiFi zones at three key locations in the city on Saturday, an official said. One of them will be the base camp at Bhagwati Nagar here. The two other locations are the Jammu railway station and the main bus stand.
The three locations are among over two dozen already identified locations in the city where WiFi services are planned to be installed as part of the smart city mission for the benefit of local residents, tourists, and students, as well as the business community.
The Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) is a special-purpose vehicle constituted in August 2017 by the J & K government for the implementation of smart city development projects in Jammu city. The authorities signed an agreement with LMES to install WiFi hotspots at 20 more locations in November last year.
Amarnath Yatra pilgrims camped in Jammu have expressed their appreciation for the facility and expressed that it will help them remain connected with their loved ones back home.
The officials said anyone can avail of the public WiFi facility free of charge for up to 500 MB after login and validation through an OTP (One Time Password). This initiative will bring a technological aspect to the nearby villages and prove to be a crucial step in making Jammu one of the smart Indian cities.
Meanwhile, Amarnath Yatra pilgrims traveling to Jammu from various parts of India demanded the creation of numerous additional booths to facilitate their smooth registration.
Six counters, including one for Sadhus, are already functioning for the Tatkal registration of pilgrims planning to pay obeisance at the 3,880-metre high sacred cave of Amarnath in the south Kashmir Himalayas.
The 43-day-long Amarnath Yatra began on June 30 from the dual routes of conventional 48-km Nunwan in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam and 14-km shorter Baltal in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal.
