According to the prime minister, Quad is moving forward with a positive agenda for the Indo-Pacific, which will reinforce its reputation as a “force for good.”
Modi spoke in the presence of US Vice President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and freshly elected Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
In his opening comments at the summit, Prime Minister Modi said that the Quad has quickly risen to prominence on the global scene.
“We have expanded collaboration in vaccine distribution, climate action, supply chain resilience, disaster response, economic cooperation, and adverse events resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
He said that the Quad nations’ collaboration in numerous fields contributes to the Indo-Pacific region’s peace and stability.
The meeting comes when ties between China and the Quad member nations have been strained in recent years, with Beijing aggressively undermining democratic norms and resorting to forceful economic tactics.
In keeping with the region’s long-term goal, Biden inaugurated the ambitious Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) on Monday, a program aiming to closer collaboration among like-minded nations in sectors such as sustainable energy and supply-chain resilience, and digital commerce.
The IPEF’s implementation is intended to signal that the US is committed to advancing a robust economic policy for the region to oppose China’s aggressive trade strategy in the area.
Prime Minister Modi said at the IPEF launch ceremony that the IPEF announcement is a proclamation of a joint determination to make the Indo-Pacific region an engine of global economic development.
The prime minister also called for shared and imaginative solutions to the Indo-Pacific region’s economic concerns.
