Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was heckled by youth protesters who yelled slogans questioning him when to receive employment; this humiliating episode for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took place only a day before phase three of the Uttar Pradesh (UP) votes.
The event occurred at a rally in the UP district of Gonda. Before Singh could begin his campaign speech, the young demonstrators started screaming slogans.
The males in the stands chanting slogans inquired for jobs, particularly in the Indian Army.
“Sena Bharti chalu Karo (begin army recruitment),” “Hamari manage poori Karo (fulfill our demands),” the demonstrators were heard yelling.
The minister, who was on stage, inquired about the demonstration and then assured the guys that hirings would occur.
Mr. Singh then attempted to calm the outraged youngsters by stating,
“hogi, hogi (It will take place),” and “don’t worry.”
“We share your concern. A few issues arose due to the coronavirus,” Defence Minister elaborated.
At Mr. Singh’s response, everyone burst out into “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”
This slogan-shouting incident took place after UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that BJP generated crores of employment opportunities during his reign.
CM Yogi had previously tweeted that his administration has created crores of jobs in the public and private sectors and self-employment prospects during the last five years.
This assertion has been vigorously debated on the fact, particularly in Prayagraj, the state’s coaching capital, where cops thrashed students who were protesting about the irregularities in a railway exam last month.
CMIE statistics
Numerous BJP supporters have stated on social media that statistics from the independent think tank CMIE reveal that the unemployment level in Uttar Pradesh has dropped from 17.5 percent in 2017 under Akhilesh Yadav’s tenure to 4.2 percent today.
However, according to CMIE statistics, while Uttar Pradesh’s present unemployment rate is 4.9 percent, the rate between January and April 2017, before the BJP government came to power, was 3.8 percent.
The youth unemployment rate nearly doubled from 7.9 percent in January-April 2017 to 13.34 percent in March-August 2021.
According to the manifesto, if Akhilesh Yadav, the BJP’s top rival in UP, is elected, his party has promised lakhs of employment and the regularization of current government positions.
“If re-elected in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP Government would distribute free LPG gas cylinders on the festival of Holi and Diwali each year,”
Defence Minister added.
The BJP, which unveiled its agenda for Uttar Pradesh last week, has guaranteed at least one family member of each household in the state a job or the opportunity to work for oneself.
significant points on the manifesto include:
- The BJP guaranteed three crore employment in its electoral manifesto for the assembly elections.
- To entice farmers, BJP has also pledged free power for irrigation purposes.
- CM Yogi has further stated that he will introduce legislation that would impose a minimum term of ten years in prison and a fine of Rs one lakh on individuals guilty of practicing ‘love jihad.’
In the polls that extend up to seven phases, two rounds of voting have been conducted. Today, i.e., 20th February 2022, voting for the third phase of the elections will take place in 59 Assembly seats across 16 districts in the state.
