The Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh saw the arrest on Thursday of six people, including Junaid, Sohail, Arif, Hafiz, Karimuddin, and Chhotu (Gautam), for the gruesome murder of two young Dalit girls and their sexual abuse.
The alleged incident took place on Wednesday, when two suspects by the names of Sohail and Junaid brought two Dalit girls, ages 15 and 17, to a sugarcane field where they viciously raped them. After forcing the lads to marry them, the girls were later murdered and hanged from a tree with their dupattas.
Swift action by Police authorities
According to the FIR, the main accused, Chotu, and his pals forced their way into the victims’ homes and forced them onto a motorcycle. According to the FIR, the defendants also beat their mother, raped both sisters, and then hanged their bodies from a tree.
Police went to the scene as soon as the news broke, and the remains of two young girls from the Scheduled Caste community were sent for a post-mortem to determine their precise cause of death.
Later, Suman claimed, they hung the bodies from a tree to make it appear as though they had committed suicide. According to it, an FIR has been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing pain), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint), and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code.
One Chhotu who resides in their neighborhood introduced the girls to the lads. The boys became acquainted with the woman and rode their bikes with them to the fields. The women there were slain by Sohail and Junaid after they insisted on getting married, according to the authorities.
The police further stated that two additional guys, Karimuddin and Arif, were contacted after the three men killed the girls. Now the five men hanged the females in an effort to get rid of the proof. He added that the situation is still being investigated.
The two girls’ next-door neighbor, Chhotu, was one of the five accused who, aside from him, were natives of the Lalpur area.Â
Community Outrage
The saddest aspect is that these males are aware that society is harsher on abuse victims since discussions about abuse always begin and conclude with women being blamed. If it wasn’t permitted, why did she date? When it wasn’t safe, why did she go? Don’t you suppose they would have fled as quickly as they could if she had known what was coming? the suffering the girls experienced knowing what was happening to their sister, the younger one, 15, and the older one, 17, before their terrible demise. the heartbreak their mother experienced as she impatiently waited for the police to find her girls while already having a horrible inkling
Villagers from the area and the family of the girls protested and blocked the road in an effort to demand justice for the deaths. To protest the killings, the locals staged a demonstration at Nighasan Cross. While a sizable police force was mobilized to maintain law and order, Superintendent of Police Sanjiv Suman and Assistant Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh attempted to comfort the angry locals.
The girls were discovered hanging by their own dupattas, according to Lucknow area Inspector General of Police Laxmi Singh.
Particularly for the state of Uttar Pradesh, this is not a unique incidence. Although there is little opportunity for socialization between men and women in villages, these are the places where sexual assault and discrimination are most common.
Teenagers begin dating without understanding or consideration, referring to it as a life milestone. Although confining it to casual interactions is typical, what can be seen from such instances is that teenage boys tend to start partnerships in order to experience the physical side of it. The outcome is deathly in rural regions where sex education is minimal and women’s honor is precarious.
Women are viewed as objects or as things to be used, owned, and thrown by these criminals; victims fall into this mentality and are consistently given the short end of the stick. When choosing suicide{not in this case} over returning home after experiencing sexual abuse or attack.Â
