In a bid to revamp their coaching staff for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has decided to relieve Mike Hesson of his duties as the Director of Cricket Operations, and Sanjay Bangar from his position as the head coach. This strategic move is aimed at rebuilding the coaching team and revitalizing the franchise’s chances of winning their first-ever IPL title.
Despite RCB’s long-standing presence in the T20 franchise league, they have been unable to clinch the coveted championship. Their previous appearances in the finals occurred in 2009, 2011, and 2016. However, during Mike Hesson’s five-year tenure as coach, the team only managed to secure a spot in the IPL playoffs three times.
The decision to part ways with Hesson and Bangar reflects RCB’s determination to adopt a fresh approach and introduce new ideas to enhance their chances of lifting the IPL trophy.
According to a report from the Indian Express, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is currently in the process of searching for new coaches. It remains unclear whether the batting coach, Sridharan Sriram, and the bowling coach, Adam Griffith, from the 2024 season will continue in their roles or not. The report also mentioned that Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar had a strong rapport with Virat Kohli, who has been associated with RCB for the past 15 years. However, the team’s owners are eager to bring fresh ideas and strategies to the table in order to secure their first-ever championship at the M.A. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The potential reason behind the decision to sack Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar could be RCB’s performance in the IPL 2024, which led to their elimination before the playoffs. The team faced difficulties with their middle-order batting, which has been a persistent issue for the franchise in recent years. Additionally, the bowling department did not deliver outstanding performances.
At present, it is unknown whether RCB will hire an Indian or overseas head coach for the upcoming 2024 season of the league.
RCB Contemplates Future of Bowling Coach Adam Griffith as Coaching Staff Rebuilding Begins
According to recent reports, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is currently in deliberation regarding the future of their bowling coach, Adam Griffith. The team management is yet to reach a decision on whether they will opt for an Indian coach or consider an overseas candidate to fill the coaching position. This move follows the trend set by other franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI), who made changes to their coaching staff ahead of the 2024 season. KKR appointed Chandrakant Pandit as their head coach, while MI brought in Mark Boucher for the same role. In addition, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) recently announced the appointment of Justin Langer as their new head coach, replacing Andy Flower.
With his notable coaching credentials, Adam Griffith, a former Zimbabwe player, is actively seeking new opportunities within the IPL. Given his coaching achievements, he could be considered a genuine candidate for the coaching role at RCB. The franchise is focused on rebuilding their coaching staff as they aim to bring the IPL title home to the M.A. Chinnaswamy Stadium for the first time in history.
