Spanish Club Real Madrid defeated Celta Vigo 4-1 to remain at the top of the La Liga table. Playing their first match after Casemiro’s departure to Manchester United, Real Madrid had 4 different goalscorers on the sheet.

Karim Benzema gave the visitors an early lead through a penalty in the 14th minute. Iago Aspas scored for Celta Vigo on their penalty kick to level the match in the 23rd minute. Just under 5 minutes from halftime, midfielder Luka Modric scored from David Alaba’s pass. The goal marked a new record for the Croatian midfielder.
Luka Modric has now scored at least one league every season since 2003-04. Of his 33 La Liga goals, 18 have been scored from outside the box. Having got the lead before halftime, Modric played a ball to Vinicius Jr at the 56th-minute mark. Vinicius ran away with it and slotted another goal for the visitors.
Madrid did not back away from their assault. VinÃcius Júnior joined Modric to score a goal and assist in the same match. He played a ball to midfielder Federico Valverde who smashed the 4th goal for the side. After a sizeable 4-1 lead by the 66th minute, Real Madrid’s defense stayed put throughout the remaining part of the match.
Hazard misses late penalty for Real Madrid
Eden Hazard was sent in during the ending moments of the match. Real Madrid won their 2nd penalty of the match in the 87th minute. Hazard failed to slot in the spot kick, which was saved by Celta Vigo goalkeeper Marchesin. The former Chelsea player has only scored four goals in his 50 La Liga appearances.

As Casemiro left for Man Utd, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni played together with Luka Modric in the midfield.
Real Madrid won the match and remains top of the table with 6 points and a goal difference (GD) of 4. The club has not lost a match to a team outside of Madrid and Barcelona since January 2021. Celta Vigo, on the other hand dropped to 14th in the table with one loss and one draw.
Real Madrid will next face Espanyol when they visit them on 29th August. Celta Vigo will face Girona on 26th August.
