On 5th April 2022, in Parliament, Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi held a meeting with the Congress Parliamentary Party. During the meeting, Sonia Gandhi called for ‘unity at all levels’ of the organisation and said that the Party’s revival is essential for democracy and society and not just for the party alone.
Taking note of the recent election results, she said the results are shocking and painful as well. On that note, Sonia Gandhi added that the road ahead is more challenging than ever for the party.
The meeting was attended by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and all other Congress MPs of both upper and lower houses of the parliament. Slamming the ruling BJP government, Sonia Gandhi said that maximum governance to those in power means spreading maximum fear and intimidation and she added that the party will not get frightened by the threats.
While addressing the MPs, the Congress president also criticised the BJP for targeted use of federal agencies against the opposition leader. Recently, congress had been voicing out against the government on issues such as inflation, farmers’ issues, fuel price increase and border row with China.
