The dengue outbreak in Bangladesh has proved to be the worst in the month of August, 2024. According to Dhaka Tribune, there were 60,352 cases that were recorded for this vector-borne disease.

The deaths through dengue in Bangladesh has taken 286 lives, according to the Dhaka Tribune. In the last 26 days, the daily reported cases for Dengue are 2,321 on an average, with 10 deaths on a daily basis.
More Deaths Occur from The Dengue Outbreak in Dhaka
Within a span of 24 hours till the morning of Saturday, 9 more deaths have been recorded in this outbreak in Bangladesh. 5 of these deaths occurred in Dhaka alone. This year, the number of deaths has been raised to 537 from mosquito-borne diseases alone, according to Dhaka Tribune.
During this same time, 1,960 more patients were put in the hospital due to viral fever, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). 833 of these patients in the Dengue Outbreak have been admitted in various hospitals in Dhaka.

The rest of the patients had been admitted in hospitals outside of the capital. According to DGHS, the situation is worsening across the country with the number of cases on the rise.
There are a total of 8,232 active patients in the current situation, with 3,846 in the capital of alone. The other patients are receiving their treatment in other hospitals of the country.
According to the reports of DGHS, 112,184 cases of dengue were recorded with 103,411 patients recovering in this year. Dhaka Tribune has reported the same numbers. The situation of the dengue outbreak seems to be worsening and took a serious turn during the previous month.
The situation continued into August. It has come to the notice of the World Health Organization (WHO) and they asked for a swift action against the outbreak to contain it on August 11. The outbreak should be contained as quickly as possible.
According to the reports from WHO, the country has been experiencing an unusual episodic amount of rain during this time. The rainfall has been combined with higher temperatures and high humidity, which has caused an increase in the population of mosquitoes throughout the country of Bangladesh. This has caused the cases of dengue to get out of hand.
There has been no declaration of a public health emergency in the country so far, but it is believed that the dengue outbreak will continue till the month of November. According to the Health Minister of Bangladesh, Zahid Maleque, Dhaka Tribune reported on August 23, the impact of dengue has been far greater in Bangladesh than any other neighboring countries.
The fatality rate was marked at 0.47% and the number of cases in the dengue outbreak, along with the deaths, are higher than the last 5 years, as was reported by WHO. The cases first started to rise in the month of May, 2024.Since 2000, this year has recorded the highest number of cases and dengue cases were reported from all over the 64 districts within the country.
The most affected area of the Dhaka division within Bangladesh is the Dhaka city corporation. The cases in Dhaka city corporation were marked at 52.8% and 78.9% deaths were recorded there as well.
