The new projects will grow to become large-scale, significant campuses at the Discovery Park District. Rolls-Royce has attained an electronic controls facility and has begun conducting advanced engine testing at Purdue’s Zucrow Propulsion Labs.
Rolls-Royce recently announced that it will invest $400 million in a major modernization of engine test facilities in Indiana. In the past decade, the company has invested almost $1.5 billion in the United States. The facilities at Indianapolis will test engines in a variety of products. It will include the U.S Air Force B-52 strategic bomber fleet.
Last year, Rolls-Royce won a $2.6 billion contract to manufacture 650 engines for the iconic aircraft. The campus modernization program of Indianapolis started with a previous $600 million investment in manufacturing facilities, upgraded equipment and advanced technology, which was completed in 2021.
The recent $400 million investment will make the Indianapolis site among the most advanced manufacturing campuses that Rolls-Royce operates. The site is highly efficient as well as competitive within the aerospace industry. It has a talented UAW workforce of 1,000 along with 3,300 total employees.

Rolls- Royce has also invested a $100 million coast across America, renovating and updating facilities in Georgia, Mississippi, Virginia, South Carolina and California. Chairman and CEO of Rolls-Royce North America, Tom Bell said,
“We are excited to increase our modern test capabilities and footprint in Indianapolis. We’re developing state-of-the-art facilities that will upgrade our recent modernization project and add value for our customers with highly efficient and advanced manufacturing capabilities. Rolls-Royce North America is growing, modernizing, and leading the way across the U.S.”
The new engine test facilities campus will be built on the company’s operations campus near Tibbs Avenue and Raymond Street. The new test cells and upgrade rooms will be used in testing the modern gas turbine engines which are manufactured on-site. Rolls-Royce is also planning to invest in test capability in West Lafayette, IN.

The company will upgrade its electronic engine controls business and would add high-altitude, hybrid electrical and hypersonic test capabilities. The new projects will grow to become large-scale, significant campuses at the Discovery Park District.
