Ukraine alleges Russia of violating the grounds of ceasefire to prevent hundreds and thousands of Ukrainians from evacuating. Russian military disrupted the evacuation processes from cities like Bucha, Mariupol and Gostomel.
Russia and Ukraine have entered the 14th day of war. Following a long human atrocity, both the countries agreed to halt the attack to evacuate the civilians and provide help and support to the needed.
Moscow agreed for the Ukrainian government to use the Humanitarian Corridors to evacuate their citizens. However, Ukraine is repeatedly accusing Russia of violating the ceasefire norms accepted willingly by both nations.
On March 9, the Ukrainian authorities reported that Russian military disrupted the process of evacuation of civilians from the cities of namely Bucha and Gostomel. Continuous bombing and shelling made the evacuation process difficult for the government from these areas.
The authorities accused Russian military of blocking 50 buses filled with citizens. They also stated that it was difficult to reach any negotiations with the occupiers. Thus, failing the evacuation plan yesterday in the cities of Bucha and Gostomel.
Further, Russians also tried to block the evacuation of citizens from Vorzel, Irpen and Borodyanka.
However, the authorities managed to pull out many people from these areas. It is reported that these citizens were unable to leave their houses due to continuous bombing and shelling. But, due to the green corridor, they were allowed to leave these areas.
Russia breaks ceasefire agreement in Mariupol
Along with the areas surrounding the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Russia has also violated the ceasefire agreements in the city of Mariupol. While Russia agreed for the peace agreement for the civilians to evacuate from the besieged cities, it has breached its own commitment.
The Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba took to Twitter yesterday to narrate the conditions prevailing in Mariupol. He has stated that Russia has held 400,000 citizens hostage in Mariupol.
Further, it has also blocked the humanitarian aid trying to reach those citizens. Kuleba also added that there are nearly 3000 new-born babies in hospitals that lack medicine and food.
Likewise, Russia in return is also accusing Ukraine of violating ceasefire to allow citizens from Mariupol to evacuate the war zone. The Russian military has kept Mariupol is under siege longer than a week. Thus, making the situation difficult for the authorities to send help to its citizens.
On Tuesday, the International Committee of the Red Cross, that ensures humanitarian protection and assistance to the victims of war, described the conditions prevailing in Mariupol as
‘Apocalyptic’.
The residents are trying to survive in the conditions where they have to take shelter underground with no food, water, power, or heat.
Attack on children’s hospital in Mariupol
Yesterday, the Ukrainian city council accused Russia of bombing a children’s hospital in the besieged Mariupol. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy have blamed the Russian counterpart of carrying out a genocide.
The Russian military bombed a children’s hospital through an aircraft burying the patients in debris.
The authorities confirmed that the attack has injured children and women in labor. Further, the higher officials are describing the incident as the biggest assault on any European state since 1945.
The higher authorities of United States of America called the incident a
“Barbaric use of military force to go after innocent civilians”.
However, Russia is denying all the accusations from Ukraine. One of the Russian spokesmen Dmitry Peskov said that Russia never targets civilians. The attack is a part of a ‘special operation’ to disarm Ukraine and remove the so-called “Neo-Nazis” Ukrainian leaders.
Further, Russia is accusing Ukraine of containing biological or nuclear weapons. Moscow has asked the Ukrainian authorities to explain “Ukrainian biological weapons labs”.
However, the White House has already ousted that claim and called it an ‘absurd propaganda’. The west accuses Russia of finding a justification at the pretext of war.
United Nations calls the bombing a ‘horrific’ attack
The head of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, describe the incident as a terrible attack on humanity. He says that the senseless violence must stop quickly.
The United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF claims that within two weeks, at least 37 have lost their lives and more that 50 children are injured. Moreover, more than 1 million children have fled the war zone.
