Russia has launched a large-scale strike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. The attack last Monday has led to destruction and several people being wounded in the process. While Ukraine military officials have informed local media sources that their air defence systems had been able to repel and prevent attacks from the country, it is still not clear how many drones had been launched by the latter towards Kyiv.

Victory Day for Russia
The country celebrates its Victory Day by commemorating the victory over Nazi Germany in the 20th century. Moscow is ramping up preparations for the celebration of the same which includes a Victory Day parade on Tuesday. The event remains fundamental to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, who has envisioned a new spirit for the Soviet army.

The same army was responsible for defeating the Nazi forces of Germany. It is interesting to note that the Soviet country, which believes that Ukraine has fallen into the grip of contemporary Germany, deems the occasion fit for a demonstration of Russian power.
The Attack
According to the official sources, the attack has led to five people being injured. The Russian missiles are said to have struck a food warehouse in the Black Sea city of Odesa besides several other areas that were hit by the strikes. In the Solomyanskyi region of Kyiv, there have been reports of three injuries, followed by two incidents in Sviatoshyn.

While both regions lie in the westward region of Kyiv, the latter experienced high wreckage from drone attacks, says Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Furthermore, there have been sources that suggest that Russia had planned to siege the area of Bakhmut through intensified shelling by Tuesday. The region currently falls under the control of a top general of Ukraine. However, the Wagner mercenary groups of former country seem to have withdrawn from the plan.

According to the military administration of Kyiv, the destruction caused by the drone attack also includes damage to the Zhuliany airport. While the airport is among the two passenger airports in Kyiv, it can be seen as a strategy to neutralize points of evacuation. The source adds that the military that was present during the attack was able to prevent havoc in the region. The officials inform the media through social media, that they had been able to counter-attack one of the drones. However, the drone debris hit a two-storey building, causing further damage to the Shevchenkivskyi region in the city. Finally, the sources inform the media that there have been no casualties reported so far.
What does the two side say
The spokesperson for the military administration in Odesa Serhiy Bratchuk suggested that Russia had attacked a foodstuff warehouse in the capital. While informing the people on the social media platform Telegram, he posted a picture of the warehouse covered in flames after one of the missiles hit the same. The attacks also led to air raid alerts for hours in regions that comprise almost 66 per cent of Ukraine.
According to a local media source, people claimed to have heard large noises of explosions in South Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. The Soviet counterpart Vladimir Rogov, who is also the local official installed by the country in the Zaporizhzhia region stated that the Russian forces managed to hit the warehouse. He added that the position of the Ukrainian troops in the Orikhiv region was also altered by the Russian military.
