In late July, Samsung Galaxy Unpacked will unveil its newest model in Seoul. Along with folding phones, the business also showcased a new smartwatch and tablet.
Samsung revealed on Wednesday that Seoul, South Korea, will be the location of its upcoming Unpacked event. The exact date has not yet been made known but the conglomerate confirmed that it will take place sometime in July. There is speculation that Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 devices will be introduced at the event.
About Unpacked
The Unpacked, Samsung‘s flagship event, routinely introduces new smartphones and other gadgets from the company to the wider public. It has previously staged events in well-known cities all around the world. However, Unpacked will take place in South Korea this year for the first time.
A millennial Buddhist temple called Bongeunsa and Teheran-ro will merge at COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam, where the Unpacked event will be held. The organisation claims that this special location gives people all around the world the chance to experience Seoul’s compelling fusion of the past, present, and future.
Although Samsung has been quiet about upcoming developments, the company is most likely to reveal two new foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 will be the successors to the well-received Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, both of which are foldable and can flip.
Expect just minimal hardware modifications in the upcoming generation, while whispers suggest that the Flip 5 might undergo a facelift. Samsung could unveil its newest tablet and smartwatch at the next Galaxy Unpacked event next month.
Its significance for Samsung
When it comes to foldable smartphones, Samsung has been the leader. Every year, the tech giant launches new foldable phones, but exclusively in the premium market. Worldwide shipments of foldable phones, including flip and fold form factors, are anticipated to reach 21.4 million units in 2024, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC).
In the market for foldable phones, Samsung is up against fierce competition from Chinese phone manufacturers. The following flagship model from OnePlus might fold. Expect the 2024 incarnation of Unpacked to emphasise foldables, similar to other recent summer Unpacked events.
The foldable category epitomises Samsung’s strategy of producing innovation that pushes boundaries to redefine the future of mobile experiences, according to TM Roh, president of Samsung and head of its mobile experience business. According to him, holding Unpacked in Seoul is significant because the city has emerged as a hub for innovation and culture, as well as the foldable product category.
Other events
In May, there was a rumour that this year’s Unpacked might happen on July 26. According to Samsung, the Unpacked shows that were centred on foldables will now be held in various cities that closely match the chosen subject of each event.
Unpacked will take place in July, which means it will be a little earlier than usual compared to previous years when it was in August. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 at that event, suggesting that both devices may receive revisions this year. While the Z Fold 5 is allegedly thinner when folded, the Z Flip 5 is rumoured to have a larger outside display.
Samsung has held Galaxy Unpacked events in a number of cities over the years. Samsung initially held Unpacked in March 2010 in Las Vegas, and since then, it has taken place in important cities like New York, London, Berlin, and Barcelona.
It’s interesting to note that foldables are equally popular in South Korea, where Samsung is based. With a phenomenal adoption rate of 13.6% for foldable phones in 2022, the Korean market took the lead and boasted the largest proportion of foldable phones among yearly smartphone shipments.
