India, Pakistan, England, and New Zealand qualify for the Semi-Finals of the T20 World Cup 2022. New Zealand and India topped their respective groups. The Indian team is all set to face 2nd placed England while New Zealand is going to lock horns with Pakistan. The first semi-final is set to be played at the SCG, where Pakistan will play New Zealand. The second semi-final is going to be hosted in Adelaide, where India and England fight for the spot in the final.
The group stage in this edition of the WC has been amazing with shocks and many underdog stories. This group stage had everything. Let’s see how the group stages went for each team who qualified for the Semi-Finals.
Group 1 for world cup 2022
Qualified for Semi-finals – New Zealand and England.
New Zealand
New Zealand topped their group with 7 points. Played 4 matches out of 5, and one match got washed out due to heavy rains. New Zealand started their campaign strongly after defeating the hosts in their opening match. New Zealand defeated Australia by 89 runs. Although England emerged victorious against the Blackcaps. New Zealand comfortably won against Sri Lanka and Ireland while their game against Afghanistan did not go ahead due to the rains. Their star player in this campaign has been Glenn Philips, who scored the first Century of the tournament. The Blackcaps had a good NRR and easily qualified for the Semis.
England
England had to struggle for a spot in the semis but in the end, they managed to win and grab one. England also managed to play 4 matches out of 5, one being washed out by the rains. England defeated table-toppers New Zealand along with Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. Although they were shocked by their neighbors as Ireland defeated England. This was a shock defeat for the ODI World Cup champions. Although they managed to qualify for the semi-finals due to a better NRR than Australia. New Zealand, England, and Australia both were tied on 7 points, but the latter one failed to qualify due to poor NRR. The tradition of hosts once failing to win the World Cup continues.
Group 2 for World cup 2022
Qualified for the Semi-Finals – India and Pakistan.
India
The Indian cricket team won the most points among all the 12 teams in the Super 12. India managed to win 4 games and played all 5 games. India started their campaign by defeating Pakistan in a thrilling game. Virat Kohli is the highest run scorer in this World Cup with 246 runs in just 5 matches. Suryakumar Yadav is in exquisite form as he is 2nd on the list, having a strike close to 194.00. The Indian team still lacks control of the game in the death overs while bowling, but so far they have managed to win 80% of their games. Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been helping the team with their swing bowling.
R Ashwin became the leading wicket-taker for the Indian Team in the history of T20. Rohit Sharma’s team won against Pakistan, Bangladesh, Netherlands, and Zimbabwe. The only loss in this campaign so far for the team was against the Proteas. South Africa managed to bottle up their qualification after losing to the Dutch side on the final day.
Pakistan
Pakistan lost their first two games. It was thought that the chances of qualifications for the Asian team were almost null. But the team beat all the odds in the final games after defeating Netherlands, South Africa, and Bangladesh on the go. Captain Babar Azam is out of form but other players have been in their top form after the Zimbabwe game. The Pakistani side played all 5 matches and won 3 of them. Their qualification came down to the final match against Asian neighbors Bangladesh. This was a do-or-die match for both sides. It went down the drain, but Pakistan took its chances and sealed its spot in the semis.
The semi-finals of the World Cup T20 are all set. All four teams look forward to sealing their spot in the final which is going to be played in the famous MCG – Melbourne Cricket Ground. The title match is scheduled to take place on November 13th, 2022. Each of the four nations is ready to give it their all to be crowned as the Champions of this year’s Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
