A sea of people gathered at the grain market in the district headquarters town of Punjab to attend the bhog ceremony of famed musician Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu Moosewala.
From wearing t-shirts with images of Sidhu Moosewala printed on them, with the message “legends never die”, dressed as him, scores of people from Punjab, Haryana, and other states.
All gathered at a grain market on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, to attend the slain singer’s “bhog” ceremony (funeral service). A large number of admirers arrived at the bhog location on two-wheeler tractors carrying posters of Sidhu Moosewala.
The grain market echoed with chants like Sidhu Moose Wala amar rahe (Moose Wala, long live) and katila nu fahe lao (Moose Wala, long life) (give death sentence to killers).
The teens were restless, as they stood in never-ending, lengthy lines to pay their respects to the artist.
The majority of them arrived while tying turbans in response to Moose Wala’s family’s plea.
Sidhu Moose Wala’s father, remarked in a broken voice that the 29th of May would be remembered as a dark chapter in his life for as long as he lives.
He mourned saying, “We never imagined such a fate for our child.”
He warned people not to propagate rumours and false stories about his son and to only trust his verified Instagram account.
“As we have given authorities time to serve justice, don’t become angry and believe in lies;
if any message has to be sent, I shall go live from the verified account,” he stated.
Balkaur Singh also denied that other politicians or any political party compelled his son to run in the assembly elections, saying that Sidhu chose to run since Raja (Warring) had stopped him from running.
“If my son had said any inappropriate word for anyone over his entire life, I apologise,” the father stated, becoming upset. Mother Charan Kaur asked everyone to plant a sapling in her son’s memory and care for
it until it grows into a full-fledged tree.
Balkaur Kaur added: “Though life had become meaningless after May 29, your overwhelming support has helped me lessen my pain. We will never be able to bear the sorrow, but we will attempt to survive after receiving strength from the Almighty.”
At the same time, the Punjab Police states they have detained eight suspects in the case of Moosewala’s murder. These individuals are accusations of performing reiki, providing sanctuary, and assisting the assailants.
However, the gunmen have yet to be apprehended by authorities.
