The Global K-pop icon and Girls’ Generation leader Taeyeon unfollowed her SM Entertainment account on 24th June, due to the recent issues of maltreatment by the agency. The K-pop idol has subtly hinted at the mistreatment throughout the years and this time she did not hold back. Taeyeon’s fans came to support her through social media and are frustrated with the agency. They started to unfollow the same account following her path.
The feud with SM Entertainment
The issue came into being a few days ago when the idol updated her social media platforms insinuating her displeasure with SM Entertainment. Taeyeon’s concert, The Odd of Love has been scheduled lately leading to the fans’ delight. But the problem arose when the venue for the concert in Indonesia was assigned to be Hall 5 of the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) with only a capacity of just 5,000 fans.
The venue has been in controversy for a while among K-pop fans. This announcement led to an uproar among fans against the policy of the agency in cutting short the audience. Taeyeon is seen to be clearly upset with this update. She then unfollowed her SM–managed Instagram account. Taeyeon has an immense fanbase in Indonesia and it is sure that the venue cannot hold them.
This led to fans sending protest trucks to the SM agency building. The trucks were sent on 23rd June to voice the issue. The fans of China and Korea have joined together for this protest. The hashtag #SM_STOP_DISCRIMINATING_TAEYEON has been trending throughout to showcase their exasperation. Thankfully the organizer of the concert, Dyandra Global has taken several measures and added Hall 2 to the concert as well.
SM’s measures backfire
June 23rd, the protest trucks were under scrutiny as the company filed a complaint against them for upsetting the agency and the personnel working environment.
