Mrs. Gandhi had asked for a postponement as she was also covid positive earlier. Rahul Gandhi, her son and Congress MP, is to be questioned for the same case on June 13th (Monday).
The reaction of Congress to Sonia Gandhi summons
Indian National Congress has decided to go out on a protest on March, June 13th. The march would include MPs and party leaders. The party members call it a ‘satyagraha’ against the misuse of powers by the central government.
The party termed ED’s actions as a form of ‘vendetta.’ They have claimed that all the allegations against the Congress President and other leaders are “baseless” and “fake.” The members are blaming BJP for this alleged political conspiracy.
Enforcement Directorate on the Case
The National Herald is owned by Young Indian Pvt. Ltd. The newspaper is also published by Associated Journals Ltd.
The ED has specified the purposes behind the interrogation of the Congress leaders. The questions aim at deciphering the shareholding and its patterns and also to get data on financial transfers. The ED also registered a fresh case against Young Indian recently.
The new case was based on a probe of the Income Tax Department in relation to the same private firm. This criminal complaint was registered back in 2013 by Subramanian Swamy.
