On July 5, some problems in SpiceJet aircraft led to an emergency landing of two different aircraft on the same day.
Kandla to Mumbai flight did emergency landed
On Tuesday, a SpiceJet flight which took off from Kandla, Gujarat landed safely in Mumbai after an outer pane of a windshield cracked in mid-air.
“On July 5, 2022, SpiceJet Q400 aircraft was operating SG 3324 (Kandla–Mumbai). During cruise at FL230, P2 side windshield outer pane cracked. Pressurisation was observed to be normal. The aircraft landed safely in Mumbai,” a SpiceJet spokesperson said.
On the same day, another flight which took off from Delhi and was on its way to Dubai landed in Karachi, Pakistan. There were around 150 passengers on board who were said to be safe. Aviation regulator DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) has started an interrogation into the matter.
SpiceJet Delhi-Dubai flight landed in Karachi
“On July 5, 2022, SpiceJet B737 aircraft operating flight SG-11 (Delhi – Dubai) was diverted to Karachi due to an indicator light malfunctioning. The aircraft landed safely at Karachi and passengers were safely disembarked,” the statement from SpiceJet’s spokesperson. “No emergency was declared and the aircraft made a normal landing. There was no earlier report of any malfunction with the aircraft. Passengers have been served refreshments. A replacement aircraft is being sent to Karachi that will take the passengers to Dubai,” they added.
Smoke in SpiceJet plane in Delhi-Jabalpur flight
Just after the few days of the airline (SG-2962) Delhi to Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh flight smoke incident which returned back to Delhi airport after crew members complained about the presence of mild smoke in the cabin. The SpiceJet SG-11 flight had to make an unscheduled landing due to a technical malfunction in the aircraft.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Delhi-Jabalpur flight made an emergency landing as smoke in the cabin caused panic among everyone present in the aircraft. All this incident took place when the aircraft was flying at a height of 5,000 feet. “While passing the crew noticed smoke in the cabin. The pilots decided to return to Delhi. Aircraft landed safely at Delhi and passengers were safely disembarked,” SpiceJet spokesperson said.
“The aircraft, DASH8 Q400, registered as VT-SUR, was involved in air turn back due to smoke in the cabin,” said an official of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. “While climbing passing 5,000ft, the crew noticed smoke in the cabin along with the lavatory smoke alarm sound. Cabin crew informed the cockpit crew of mild smoke in the cabin, but on the visual check, no sign of smoke or damage was observed in the lavatory,” the official added.
Tuesday’s unscheduled landing created a buzz among people on the flight and the airline got questioned by media and people on social media as well.
This is the seventh time the low-cost airline encountered some technical malfunction in aircraft in the last 17 days.
This raises the question of the aircraft maintenance and the security check which is done prior to all the passengers getting on board. Directorate General of Civil Aviation is looking into the case Delhi-Dubai flight which landed in Karachi, Pakistan.
