Spider-Man: No Way Home snaps box office record, earns Rs 32.67 crore on opening day.
Spider-Man: No Way Home, the much-awaited and third film in the Spider-Man series of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was released on December 16 (Thursday).
The box-office collection of the Tom Holland-starrer film closes the day with an impressive Rs 32.67 crore on its opening day, surpassing the opening day record of Akshay Kumar-starrer film, Sooryavanshi.
Action-comedy king director, Rohit Shetty’s film Sooryavanshi was the biggest opener of this year after the havoc of the Covid-19 pandemic, with a record of Rs 26.50 crore on Day 1.
Amidst the pandemic restrictions with only 50 per cent occupancy in theatres and a week-day release, Spider-Man: No Way Home witnessed 100 per cent occupancy in 11 IMAX screens across India.
With a massive fanbase in India, the film has been released in four languages – English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu across 3246 screens and counting, exceeding the previous record of Avengers: Endgame with an occupancy of 2845 screens in 2019 way before the pandemic.
Spider-Man: No Way Home has become the second-highest Hollywood release in India, the first being the Avengers: Endgame with a whopping Rs 53 crore on its opening day. It also ranked no. 1 Day 1 box office ranking in Asia and fifth globally.
Tickets for this Spider-Man movie were sold like hotcakes, as the online websites making bookings in advance crashed way before its release. Ticket prices soared to Rs 2000 per seat in many theatres.
Of the 33-crore mark, English has been the main contributor with over 50 per cent sales, followed by the Hindi version of Rs 8.20 crore.
“Day 2 box-office collection will dip due to the release of the Allu Arjun-starrer South-Indian film Pushpa”, quotes film trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
The film neared a total of Rs 79 crore towards this weekend and would soon cross the 100-crore benchmark.
Cited by the Multiplex Association of India, this film recorded the second busiest advance ticket sales for a single movie title in the entire records of the cinema exhibition.
In a recent interview with the Spider-Man actor, he revealed enjoying an Indian curry when he went for dinner with his co-star and female lead Zendaya. He also expresses his desire to visit India soon, as it remains top of his bucket list.
