DGP UP Sri Mukul Goel launched a state-wide CyberCrime awareness programme in Agra Zone on Tuesday (03/08/2021).
The awareness campaign will last for 62 days in eight districts of the ADG (Agra Zone) and span 28 sessions.
The inaugural session was held at 4:00 p.m. via internet Zoom call.
The Agra region received a report of 5,493 online fraud campaigns from January-June of 2021.
This is a sharp increase as compared to 8,292 pieces in 2020 and 5000 messages in 2019.
The TOI, ADG (Agra zone) Rajiv Krishna said the 8,292 complaints in 2020 were from the eight districts — Agra, Aligarh, Etah, Firozabad, Hathras, Kasganj, Mainpuri and Mathura.
The ADG adds that they have trained 824 cops to handle such cases in the first month of June.
He says, “In the second phase, people of different age groups will be made aware about various aspects of modern-day cyber frauds”.
According to the ADG, each session of the awareness campaign will be hour-long interactive live programs on YouTube and Zoom.
Experts from Cyber Peace Foundation (CPF) will focus on significant aspects of cyber safety and inform the necessities in dealing with and avoiding being victims of such crimes.
The officials said that the awareness campaign would help the ordinary person, especially during pandemic times.
Cybercriminals have taken advantage of the confusion and troubles of switching to ‘online activities, which has caused the spike in cybercrimes in the Agra region.
COVID 19 has created a high demand for cyberspace which has highlighted its vulnerabilities.
The ADG has facilitated the campaigns to bring awareness and target cyber frauds ranging from fraud calls, email phishing, profile hacking and identity theft, unauthorised data breach and cyber terrorism.
